Here’s an epub of The Book of Snobs by W.M. Thackeray, originally published in Punch Magazine as The Snobs of England. By One of Themselves from February 1846 to February 1847. I have fully proofed the texts against the first book edition (London: Punch Office, 1848) and corrected hundreds of mistakes and variants. Thackeray omitted six more chapters on political snobs from the first edition, which I have added from the magazine release. His 72 illustrations are included, too.

At the Punch office, they had a habit of putting all names in small caps, which, unfortunately, the OCR software regularly ignored. As it required a lot of work without adding anything to the content, I naturally tried to rectify this, so there are around 1800 small-capped names now. « C’est dans les p’tits détails comme ça, que l’on est snob ou pas. » (Boris Vian). Next up: The Adventures of Philip.
