Changing the date on a Clara BW?
I have a Clara BW running old firmware (4.41.23145, 10/29/24). With that firmware, I can go into the "Date and Time" screen and manually change the date.
I have a second Clara BW with current firmware (4.45.23640, 2/19/26). With that version, the date can not be changed. Does anyone know when this changed in the firmware? Thanks! Dan |

You can downgrade the firmware any time, so you can try it out yourself.

I believe it's related to whether or not the device is in sideloaded mode or not. I think as soon as it's set to sync with Kobo the time cannot be manually changed

How do you change the time & date on the newer Clara BW firmware?

FWIW, I have my Clara 2E set to sideloaded mode and I cannot change the date/time.

The last time this topic came up, there was some speculation that you might need Wi-Fi to always be off for some period before you gained the ability to set the clock yourself.

I wonder what the particulars are. I've had sideloaded on for year(s), and hadn't turned wifi on until recently when I purchased the Kobo remote page turner.

And again, FWIW, I recently had wifi on overnight and my Kobo clock is off by about ~5 minutes.

Do you have your Kobo connected to an ADE or DropBox account? Perhaps being logged in to any service disables the manual clock, so that you can't cheat on ADE library loans, or somesuch.

Dropbox doesn't disable manual changing - I have Dropbox enabled on my Sage and I can still do it.
Adobe or Kobo Plus accounts may be the cause. |

I try a firmware downgrade and see if that has any effect. Thanks! Dan |

Well, anyway: I remembered I had signed up for Kobo Plus (after changing my country) a month or so ago, just to see what it's like, and downloaded a few books to my Libra 2. I know I could change the time on my Libra 2 before and now I checked again: nope, I no longer can. The firmware is still the same.
My Sage has been offline for a long time (since before joining Kobo Plus) and I can still change the time on it. So the firmware doesn't matter. What matters is whether your Kobo account is tied to a library or Kobo Plus. Or has been in the past. |

In that case, I suspect this change rolled out with the introduction of Kobo Plus firmware. I remember older posts saying that you could change the clock on your Kobo to make library loans valid indefinitely, so Kobo probably closed this loophole around 2020 when Kobo Plus was rolling out.
