Kindle Scribe Colorsoft questions

Morning,
I'm awaiting Kindle Scribe Colorsoft availability in the UK and wondered if anyone who has one could answer some questions please?

How is it with PDFs in terms of performance? Is it as painfully slow as eink devices have been in the past? Is it true that colours won't show up on PDF documents unless you send the document through your Amazon email?

I read somewhere that handwritten notes cannot be encrypted and are uploaded to Amazon Is this correct? I would want to use this for journaling and having my files encrypted is a must. I'd prefer them to remain local too and to have some way to download them to PC rather than the cloud. Is this doable?

Thanks

As far as I know, to get full functionality of PDFs on the Scribe Colorsoft, they must be sent to the the Amazon cloud, get converted, and then downloaded to the device. If you sideload PDFs to the device, they will only show up in black and white and you won’t have write-on capabilities.

I loaded the Windows desktop app onto my laptop and it provides an extension to File Explorer’s Send to menu so that you can send documents to the Kindle. It still sends the files to the cloud for processing before downloading them to the Scribe Colorsoft.

The PDFs I have loaded onto my Scribe Colorsoft, even one that is quite large, have been very responsive and I have no complaints about its handling of them.

I think, though am not certain, that all of your handwritten content remains on the device only as long as you don’t use any of the AI-based functions. So, if you search your notes or convert them to text, they go into Amazon’s cloud.

Thanks BanditoB for the reply, it's really appreciated.

I could live with having to use the Amazon servers to load colour PDFs at a push. I'm happy to hear the performance is good because that was the biggest issue in the past.

The notes are the worry for me. If even searching or converting forces an upload, that's a dealbreaker. I'd never use the device for journaling without some form of local encryption.

As an example of something similar with Amazon...I used to use Echo devices around my home. I found out that you could log into your Amazon account and actually listen to every recording made by the devices when activated by the voice commands. Most of them were as you'd expect, my son and I using them for mundane things and to try to get them to swear or tell silly jokes.

I then found two recordings that horrified me. During two telephone calls made at different times, I must have said something similar to the trigger command and activated the device recorder without realising. It recorded part of the calls and both were very private. I immediately stopped using the devices and have been far more wary of Amazon et al ever since.
