Thanks! For new users who want to try it out, this method should help them remove the cumbersome pre-operation steps.

For me as well, it means I no longer need to search through the deepest parts of my notes for API keys. It can satisfy even the most basic query-based needs.

Now you can customize this shortcuts in calibre-Preferences-Shortcuts-Ask AI Plugin’s shortcuts.

Maybe I should find another default shortcut for this one.

Hi, what is the largest number of selected book entries the AI can pull data from? If I select all book records (thousands) and ask something short and simple like "Help me find disabled protagonists", I get the response: "Question too long".

I am using:
Calibre portable 8.16.2

Now current status:
Prompt length limits:
- Single book mode: 2000 characters max
- Multi-book mode: 4000 characters max

When you select thousands of books, the metadata (title + author) for each book gets concatenated into the prompt. With ~50-100 characters per book, selecting 1000+ books easily exceeds the 4000 character limit, triggering the "Question too long" error.

Practical book selection limits:

- Roughly 40-80 books max depending on title/author length
- This is a client-side validation, not an AI model limitation.
