You and a Sage

With the current Sage on the cusp of tottering into electronic senility, I was wondering how many readers plan to purchase one in 2026.

Specifically:

2026 - NOT UPDATED (current Sage)
2026 - UPDATED (newer Sage, if one is ever released)

Thank you.

That's assuming there is a Sage available at all.

Frankly I don't know. If a new Sage is released, I'll probably buy it. If no new Sage is released (or anything else interesting) and the old one is still available, I'll probably buy another Sage, as the battery of my current one is not what it used to be. But I'm not completely sure in either case.

If new Sage is release, I'll buy it. If not - will keep using my old one till battery dies completely.

For what it may be worth, one friend of mine just ordered a replacement battery for his Kobo Sage from AliExpress. The item is a PR-158098N 3.7V 1500mAh 1ICP2/80/98 battery with no connector. Delivery is around mid-January. Oddly, his original battery was a PT158098 but the dimensions of the battery he ordered seem to match the size.

It's far beyond my skill to change the battery of the Sage, and I don't know anyone who could do it for me, either. So it's either another Sage or nothing.

I'll buy a new Sage if it arrives, and if it doesn't. I'll keep using the one I have.

I seem to have missed something. Are the existing Sages breaking down already?

I think they mean it's over 4 years old now.

And can one easily take apart a Sage without cosmetically messing one up?

I haven't read that they're breaking down, but the Sage was released in 2021, which means there are bound to be weakened batteries whose charge is not what it used to be. And especially since it requires (from what I hear) frequent charging.

Still enjoying my Kobo Forma without any backlight defects (and purchased spare refurb one in Nov, unfortunately having backlight defect but perfect with backlight off).

I will buy literally _any_ new Kobo e-reader with following properties:
1. Black and white screen (color ones have terrible contrast)
2. Screen size between 7.8" and 9"
3. Has physical buttons

The only one existing is Kobo Sage but it is OOS for a while.

The procedure is pretty much the same for all Kobo's ereaders. You can use a thin guitar pick or similar stiff plastic to release the clips that hold the cover together. Gentleness and not being in a hurry will help to keep you from damaging the clips. Other people have reported success using a low tech fingernail to open the cover.

Time to visit a graveyard in search of a fingernail. I hear they keep growing after death.

Thanks!

Thank you.
Let's just say I hedged my bets and bought a second Sage as backup just before they disappeared from the USA.

Now, IF a newer Sage comes out, it depends. I might jump, I might not.

The question is what compromises would there be? Color is a possibility. A plastic screen instead of glass is also a possibility. Heavier weight is a possibility if they keep the premium glass and put a larger battery in.

I would be willing to TRY a color Sage out, just in case my eyes could take it for short periods of reading.

If it's BW and Carta 1300 with better battery, I'm likely in, though not necessarily instantly.
