Noob Jailbreak of old EOL Kindle DX not working.
I attempted to JB according to this article below.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to...source-reader/ I used the "Update_jailbreak_0.13.N_dxi_install.bin" for my old Kindle DX with serial starting with B005. It updated and gave the usual .006 error. I then installed the MKK file (MobileRead Kindlet Kit) according to article. It updated then restarted. I then installed KUAL to documents as instructed. It failed when I tried to load with a message such as "app not authorized to run on this device" or something like that. I assume because the JB did not work so unsigned non Amazon apps will not load. Also tried Launchpad per the article but the hotkeys did not work so again I assume the JB did not take. What did I do wrong? I looked through the steps but couldn't figure it out. Are there any other methods I should try? Last edited by DaveC1964; 12-17-2025 at 12:55 AM. |

In the article the JB worked but Kual complained about the date. Mine didn't even get that far. Said nothing about the date, said was not signed by a registered developer.

The date has to be reasonably correct for the signing certs to be valid. The article was using a Kindle that was in active use, and presumably had a reasonable date still, though it likely drifted after so long without sync to a tower. If your DX battery has fully died then yours lost the date and thinks it's 1970.

Sounds like you installed the latest version of KUAL, v2.7.37. It's broken on Kindle DX.
You need to use the previous version, v2.7.35. It's available here: https://storage.gra.cloud.ovh.net/v1...0250103.tar.xz The developer certificates for that version expired in April 2025, so you'll have to keep your Kindle's clock set to a date before then. |

Yeah, it sounds like the jailbreak and KUAL are working fine. Now you just need to install KOReader.
Download the koreader-kindle-legacy zip file from here: https://github.com/koreader/koreader/releases/latest Unzip it to your Kindle's root directory, and then KOReader should appear in KUAL. KOReader runs pretty slow on Kindle DX. To speed it up a little, I suggest starting it in "no framework" mode. Also, disabling all the plugins can help. To do that, look for the "plugin management" section in the menu after KOReader starts. |
