I also liked the 48 hours. It meant that as long as you read on your device every day it wouldn't turn off, which seems a reasonable rule of thumb to me. I haven't seen a turn-off rule since which makes as much sense. They're either premature or nonexistent. Now that I'm trying to husband my Aura One battery life I've gone with premature, but it can be annoying.

PocketBook, Onyx Boox, and Bigme have the option to automatically turn off after 48 hours.
In any case, I believe that times of less than a day are more focused on daily reading, which varies greatly from one user to another. Perhaps it is considered unnecessary to have an e-reader turned on while you sleep because you are certainly not going to read during that time. I have the auto-off setting set to 4 hours (and sometimes I have had it set to less time). |

I've never turned my Kobos off at all. I don't read on my Libra 2 every day, but I do read on it at least a couple of times per week, sometimes more often. I've yet to see a significant loss of battery during the time it's asleep.
If I knew I wouldn't read on my device for a couple of weeks or more, I'd turn it off. So far this has not happened. Any less time, I just let it sleep. |

The circumstances of users and e-readers vary greatly. I don't think there is a general rule that applies to everyone equally. That's why I think the ideal solution is to have many options available and choose the one that best suits those particular circumstances.
In my particular case, I have numerous e-readers of different brands that I use interchangeably, and I don't know which one I will be using in the coming days, weeks (or even months). That's why I prefer to use a daily auto-off option. |
