I have a Kindle 11th generation and firmware would allow either WB or AB. Is there any reason to prefer one over the other (e.g. is one easier or more idiot proof)?
My main motivation is to keep it from updating to a firmware version that enables hardened DRM while being able to use it normally (i.e. connected to WiFi). Is this use case supported, or is 'stay in Airplane mode' still recommended? Also is there a way to get the last pre-DRM hardening update .bin (don't remember the number)? This Kindle is currently on 5.18.2. I've been using a PW4 (5.18.1, presumably no updates in offing) for DRM-removal purposes but downloads and USB transfers and UI interaction are much slower. So I'm exploring JB for the newer one. I was able to download books on it this morning (turning WiFi off immediately), but then requested content removal via device content page, and turned on WiFi briefly to see if the content would get removed. But when this did not occur after several seconds, I turned WiFi off, and verified partial update file was there. 'It would be nice' if I could preserve it as an option for DRMR. |

The new firmware 5.18.6 is unable to use this Jailbreak.

True.
AdBreak seems pretty simple to apply, but will not solve my primary use case, since it seems any version 5.12+ is subject to 'aggressive updates', so would still need to keep WiFi off, as I have been doing. Oh well, I have other options. Last edited by tomsem; 11-06-2025 at 09:27 PM. |

Once you have applied the jailbreak, you can use the rename ota tool to keep your Kindle from updating.

But per @NuLuJe: Quote:
Applying logic, I have no need to keep the K11 from updating. Probably its main value to me is as trade in credit towards the new Scribe, which would be more than I paid for the K11 3 years ago. Last edited by tomsem; 11-07-2025 at 02:52 PM. |

Well I think that Amazon blocked coloursofts from enabling ads. I have tried several times over the last week or so, and it just gives an error when clicking the sign up for offers. I was still able to do the original Scribe.
If anyone has a work around let me know. I would like to be able to use the colour kindle and have colour covers Last edited by Spring1898; Yesterday at 11:39 AM. |

can anyone help me, i'm on a mac and the 'system' and 'assets' folders are greyed out when i used the cmd + shift + . to make them show up. i tried following the steps anyway, but in terminal i keep getting "no such file or directory exits' and when i tried to open an add to follow the prompts, it just says "there is a problem loading this image" and won't open anything. is there a way to make the folders not greyed out? thank you in advance! (i'm on a paperwhite 10, if that helps anything).
