Contemplating buying a new Scribe...
I'm contemplating buying a new Kindle Scribe. I hate the Kindle eco-system with a purple passion but would like a reliable 10.3" or so 300 DPI e-reader. Scribe fits the hardware build.

If I were to buy one of these my plan would be to jailbreak it, replace the reader software with something like KoReader, never bring the device online and only read side loaded epubs.

Is this feasable? I know Amazon goes out of their way to patch and block jail-break exploits but am certainly not going to buy a Scribe if I can't jailbreak it.

During the original set-up procedure is there any way to avoid touching base with Amazon at all or do I have to at least register the device and allow Amazon to install the latest updates?

If you don't want anything to do with Kindle, you should probably buy a Boox device, instead. You can run KOReader out of the box and avoid the hassle of jailbreaking. The Note Air 3 and Go 10.3 would both be relatively equivalent to the Scribe.

at the moment, you can only jb the first generation scribe using adbreak

Yeah, exploits get patches quicker than they develop new features... Old gen Scribe plus Koreader is Godsent, though. You can thrown everything on it and it just works. Epub, cbz, pdf... Only thing missing are pen annotations.

Not sure if AdBreak would work since I seem to remember it's max version is 5.18.5. AdBreak does require turning your Scribe into an ad-supported device before it can be jailbroken.

See AdBreak - experimental JB for ad-supported devices (5.18.1-5.18.5) for more information.
