Library has disappeared?

I recently reinstalled Windows 10 anew on my desktop system and at the same time got a new mac laptop. I installed Calibre first on my mac, pointed it to the library folder, and it showed up as empty. I thought maybe it was something odd going on with my Mac. Then I installed it on the Windows 10 system - same thing. For some reason Calibre is no longer seeing my library. How can I fix this?

Where is the library:

If it is on a network drive, server, NAS, Cloud service or something similar (i.e. not a local device) my guess is you didn't see, or chose to ignore this?

You’re right I didn’t see that. It’s in my Dropbox. However I’ve loaded my library without a problem on numerous pc computers. This is the first time I’ve had a problem with this new Mac. Not sure if it’s just a coincidence. Is there anything I can do to restore it? All the files are there. Calibre just doesn’t seem to see them

So I tried restoring the database. It told me it succeeded with some warnings. However, the database was not restored, still empty; When I look at the "details" there is an extremely long list of errors in there, but I'm not sure what any of it means.

I should also note that the operation completed within seconds which surprised me because I expected it would take awhile to rebuild the database?

Is there any way I can get access to my calibre library on my mac? What should I try next?

Later edit: I discovered that Dropbox has changed the way they do things and they no longer automatically save your files to a computer when you install it but keep them in the cloud. I took a look at my file system and have the impression most of my files are not downloaded to my computer, but only being accessed from the cloud when I click on them. Could this be the cause of all the problems I'm having? I'm traveling and have limited internet access right now, so I won't be able to download my entire calibre library to my drive at the moment, but I will try to do this when I have the opportunity, then try reopening Calibre and will then post an update here to let you guys know if this fixes the problem.

Stop the Dropbox software from running. Next read this post. It's also applicable to Dropbox. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...53#post4546553

Then you can copy all of your library from Dropbox back onto your computer. Make a new directory for your library. Once copied, then you can rebuild the database. Then you can uninstall the Dropbox software as you'll never need it again because you'll be able to do a one-way sync of your choice and when you want ot do it how you want to do it.
