By the way, KOReader doesn't support any bluetooth remotes for Kobo devices, does it?
Nope!

I'll wait for the initial reviews, but will most likely get one.

Any ideas if a new firmware for this will make it easier for third party clickers to be used?

It ought to be possible for untrained person to open the case with cheap easily available tools and replace the battery without soldering. Also it implies there must be a battery available. It's not rocket science and always been possible for €2.50 calculators and €10 watches, or similar.
It used to be easy for the clock/cmos battery replacement in PCs and laptops till Apple started the fashion for glued assembly. Their electrically debonding battery glue ide ought to be illegal. They have been a menace for the last 20+ years.

Well, UK and EU and some other places are legally obliged to quote tax (usually VAT) inclusive prices and the USA usually quotes tax free prices because there is no standard universal consumer tax in the USA, unlike many countries.

https://eu.kobobooks.com/products/kobo-remote

€30 excluding shipping is about x1.2 to x2 overpriced.

It's a very niche market. Handy for models with no buttons like an Elipsa.

I'd prefer to see them doing a 7″ mono ereader, or an 8″ mono model that isn't full of power-cover magnets and has at least 50% larger battery / 50% more run time.

Or an 8.5″ mono model with SD card slot and 400 dpi, or similar. Something more innovative and generally useful.

Prices also reflect what the local market will bear. Hence attempts to block "grey" imports by manufacturers, sometimes successfully. Microsoft, Burberry, Levi etc.

Well Apple will have to stop with the glue and make it easy for the batteries to be replaceable.

Lightbulb Kobo introduces Bluetooth Remote

Just saw this on kobo instagram channel, it looks like they're introducing an official bluetooth remote that has 2 buttons (imagining for next page and previous page)

Basically? Exactly what the item I quoted says. Easily available tools to open the ereader. From what I got from bouncing a query off an online acquaintance who practices law in Germany, the procedure on iFixIt for the Libra Colour, Clara Colour & Clara BW meets the requirements. No mention of a battery door. It is not intended to make battery replacement something you could do while taking the bus to work, simply that it must be doable without specialized tools that are not available for the enduser to purchase.

Once again and hopefully this time you will actually read it:
Quote:
A portable battery should be considered to be removable by the end-user when it can be removed with the use of commercially available tools and without requiring the use of specialised tools, unless they are provided free of charge, or proprietary tools, thermal energy or solvents to disassemble it. Commercially available tools are considered to be tools available on the market to all end-users without the need for them to provide evidence of any proprietary rights and that can be used with no restriction, except health and safety-related restrictions.
If you go back to message #66, you will find the full PDF text of the latest revision that I found attached.
