how to remove "plugboard template"
I'm not sure what I've done to enable this line on my books but does anyone know what I might do to remove it?
PLUGBOARD TEMPLATE ERROR Value: unknown field #genre See attached screenshots. Thanks Last edited by RobbieRobski; 10-06-2025 at 06:24 PM. |

It looks as if you have attempted to place the contents of a custom column called genre in the subtitle field of the KoboTouch driver. Look on the third tab of its configuration dialog and see what you have configured for subtitle field.

Alright, so I found the setting but still confused on how to remove it from books.
I found a few books, sent them to the device (assuming that it would update them on the device), ejected/unplugged, checked and the plugboard message was gone. So I did the same thing for a few more books, ejected/unplugged, but then the first batch of books I sent have the plugboard error again and the new books didn't lose the plugboard message. |

I've gone as far as removing {#genre}, from the template editor as well as unchecking the subtitle box.

The subtitle field would be updated on the second connect after the books were imported. If the error is still showing after you have unchecked the subtitle box, on the second KoboTouch driver configuration tab, do you have Do not treat replacements as new books checked?

Yes, I have that option checked. Am I going to lose reading progress/annotations or anything if I uncheck that? ( I see now that I would per the tool tip)
I tested unchecking "Do not treat replacements as new books" but that didn't seem to get rid of the plug board issue. The only thing that works for me is removing the books from device and resending. So, I guess not a huge deal to just live with this but that's kind of annoying too look at. I have annotations/highlights on some books and it would be a shame to lose those. To delete the Actual Plugboard (not the results of its use).
Preferences: Metadata Plugboards: <select your victim>: click the Delete Plugboard. ![]() |

Thanks for the clarification about replacement books.
When I go to preferences: metadata plugboards, my settings look exactly the same as the screenshot on my first post (aside from the version number). no existing plugboards, nothing in any of the source template fields etc. So it doesn't seem like I have any ability to delete anything. So maybe I had already deleted this stuff a long while back and completely forgot about it. Since my original post, looks like I've updated from version 8.3.0 to currently 8.13.0 Any ideas how I could update a book on device to get rid of the plugboard error even though I technically don't have any plugboards in my settings? There's no harm leaving things as is, it would just be nice to not see that plugboard error on those books. Or is there a way to backup the annotations/highlights and apply them after deleting/resending the book to device? Last edited by RobbieRobski; 10-18-2025 at 11:37 PM. |

Have you tried? With the device connected
search ondevice:true : <select all> : <right click the Kobo utilities Plugin icon>Update metadata in device library: <accept the next screen which will have those needing update marked> (sorry, I do not have a screen capture for this. BTW this is the same place you resend the TOC when you edit a books structure. Kobo store the TOC in its DB during the first 'processing' and not again unless yo force it this way) |

I haven't but I just did and that item is grayed out for me. Doesn't seem to matter if I have a single title selected or everything on device.
