Tools AdBreak - experimental JB for ad-supported devices (5.18.1-5.18.5)

I followed the steps but when it came to disconnecting the kindle and selecting an ad, instead of any popups showing, all I see is a frustrating "There was a problem loading this page" html page. I double checked that my .assets folder has been correctly updated with the exploit files and that the details.html files have had their contents overwritten with the adbreak.html file. Anyone else run into this issue? I'm attempting to jb my 12th gen paper white on fw 5.18.4.0.1.

So my kindle is paper white 10th gen 2018 did not have any ads since I bought it from amazon middle east, so beacause I cant will there be any upcoming update that I can use to jailbreak my kindle

Clarification regarding my setup:
- The hack is always placed in the system/.assets folder; I haven’t changed its location or anything like that.
- I enabled the Special Offers from amazon.FR, and I didn’t get any error message or anything unusual.

So, to sum up:
- I enabled Special Offers.
- I left the Kindle connected to the internet for a while.
- I've restarted the kindle.
- After some time, the .assets folder got filled with a subfolder (named 3428219230702) containing the files of the only ad that appeared.
- I've extracted the hack in the .assets and executed the replacement stuff find ...
- From the home screen, I clicked on the ad banner with the "learn more" link.

Hi, when you clicked on the ad banner, did it ask you to turn on wifi? This happened to me, after turning on wifi and get connected, nothing happened. The ad folder you mentioned also be deleted.

The option to have ads now appear on the settings. After that, I did the same process than @lucagoc described previously on this thread.

Hi, I have questions. Did you receive multiple ads or just the generic one? And when you replace .assets folder with your modified version, did the device ask you to turn on wifi before you could click on the "Learn more" link? And what happened after you clicked on it?

It asked me to turn on Wifi and then nothing happened when I click on it.

Just want to update, I successfully jailbroke my Kindle Scribe 2022 (18.5.0.1). I follow the other guys in this thread; and when replacing .assets folder, was careful NOT TO LOCK my kindle. That avoided Kindle to check the hash integrity of the .assets folder. After unplugging, I run the code normally.

this is a wonderful resource, I was wondering if @hhhhhhhhh could talk a little bit about when and how you found this exploit, how long it took to develop the JB and whether you know of any other potential exploits (no need to mention them of course) that might lead to new JBs? particularly for devices that can't use AdBreak

Simple rule: Don't talk about a jailbreak before it's released (the same rule that is true for Pokemon fan games ), and don't talk about how you found it. You never know if Amazon doesn't actively looks for threads like this.

I have a few questions. I would appreciate it if you can make sure Im on the right direction here.

1. Every since the last Winterbreak jailbreak and noticing my Kindle Scribe had been auto updated to the next firmware, I made sure the automatic update for the firmware was turned off. So I wouldn't miss the next jailbreak opportunity. Is that what everyone does?

2. I'm on the 5.18.1 firmware and I believe I don't have ads enabled. I have seen that if I connect my scribe to Amazon.fr and enable ads there, then run this exploit, then move back and do a few other things, I'm basically golden. Right?

3. What if I want to disable ads again? Will that break the exploit, or once the folder is made and the jailbreak activated, it stays that way?

I changed my country to France, changed my language to French-Fr.
Kindle Scribe 1st Gen 5.18.3
Activated the optinonal offers and found the system/.assets folder. Only one subdirectory
Put the ad program in place.
Once I ran it the following came up..
I had to be on Wifi to get it to initially run but I could kick the kindle off WIFI as soon as the adblock started.

1st window -> Version Number is 446676
2n window -> Libc base address is: xb4bef000
3rd window -> Libc system() is at: 0xb4c28b48
4th window -> Bang!
Then an error message "Erreur d'application L'ap[plication choisie n'a pas pu du demarrer. Veuillez reessayer."
Or in English Application Error. The chosen application could not start. Please try again.
Any ideas?

I solved it, I simply put the jb.sh and patchedUks.sqsh in the ad subdirectory rather than in the ".assets" folder.

Anyway, it all worked! Thank you to all the people that made the tutorial on kindlemodding and adbreak programs and to the older posts in this forum which helped me understand the process a little more.

Which Amazon website did you use? Amazon.fr, Amazon.com, etc.

Well I tried to do this on an 11th gen kindle paperwhite.

I was on 5.18.4. Enabled wifi, enabled ads (device was in airplane mode for the previous 2 months so well before 5.18.5

Got ads in less than 5 min. Airplane mode again, finished working on another kindle for another 5-10min.

Came back to my 11th gen, went through the steps, could not find the system/asset folder in the main directory.

Rechecked my kindle firmware and it jumped to 5.18.5.0.1. Not even 15min unattended and no restart on my part.

Has the system folder been obfuscated in ...5.0.1?

Hi all this is my first post ��

i have tried the jailbreak on my kindle with 5.18.1 firmware
i have however forgot to add the files ( jb.sh, patchedUks.sqsh and the html file) to the .asset folders

so i got the bang! message but nothing else

problem is i don’t get any ads anymore to retry the procedure in the right way

Do i need try to restore the ad in someway and restart the procedure? otherwise any other suggestions?
