I leave WiFi on all the time on my Kindles. I read on my Colorsoft at home. I don’t like to take it with me. If I know I’m going to have a long wait, I take my PW4 and hotspot to my phone. If I don’t think I’m going to have a wait, but then I do, I read on my phone.
What is kind of funny. If I’m reading side loaded content on my Nook and I have the same book side loaded on my Nook app on my phone, it syncs better than content from Barnes & Noble. Strange. |

Syncing on a Kindle can be a read issue. You turn on WiFi to sync your reading position and your side loaded eBooks get deleted. Is it really worth the risk? I'd say it's not worth the risk.

I've got a Paperwhite Signature edition, it's a nice e-reader, I don't think you would be disappointed. The only thing to keep in mind is some of them suffered from uneven lighting/ colouring of the screen (I had to send the first one I received back because of this).
If you aren't absolutely fixed on buying a Kindle I would recommend looking at the Kobo Clara B+W, it allows you to tweak your reading experience a lot more than the Paperwhite as you have a lot more control over line spacing, margins, font's etc etc Obviously this isn't a practical solution if all of your books are only stored on the Amazon cloud. |

I reckon they did a deal with e-ink to push color. Make one of their most popular models color only, and they probably got a cheaper deal on the 7" color screens. This is pure peculation, but it makes sense.

@OP.
If you are going to always buy from Amazon, the PW should be okay. Otherwise, I'd probably get an 8" Kobo. The Kobo has a real nice low orange light great for reading in the dark (The PW has an orange light, but I think the Kobo may be more orange). The 7" Kobo is only color, so that's out (poor b/w contrast). There is the Onyx Page 7", but I am not impressed with it. And the 8" Kobo is the same price. Maybe make sure you'd be comfortable holding a larger ereader. Obviously, it's less portable. |
