Searching in Kobo Reader.
Hi,
I have some troubles searching for a word in all my Kobo readers. Some times it works and some times not. I press the search icon and select "Current Read". I then enter the word and press "Go" and very often, but not always I get "o results found." I intended to use it on a persons name in order to refresh my memory. To be specific I searched on the name "Palfrey", no results. To test I tried "heathrow" many results, "junior" no results "boy" many results. I am of course sure that all the words exist. Works very well in the Calibre Reader. Any ideas? Edit: Works fine in Kindle Oasis. Last edited by svenlind; Yesterday at 08:42 AM. |

Odd. I just tried searching for palfrey and junior in a book that I was reading and results came up for both. Kobo's search is not case sensitive which eliminates some possibilities.
What language do you have your Kobo set to? |

Searching is working correctly on my Kobos too (both Kobos and most of the books are in English).

Are you waiting a bit for it to search? When I first got my kobo I didn't think Search worked. It would display "o results found" but later I realized that if I waited a bit it would refresh again, find a few results and continue to refresh as it found more.

Thank you for all replies.
The language of the readers is English ands so are most of my books. Including the one I used in my first post. The book is bought in Denmark as an ADE protected EPUB and converted to KEPUB via Calibre. I have tried several other books including one in Danish. Same problem with all tested books. All books are sideloaded and Wifi is off. I then tried several things and after many trials discovered that if do not use the Calibre "Polish books" feature then the search function works as expected in all books, Danish as well as English books. I always use this function as the last step when I add a new book to Calibre. |

Below are the settings I use in "Polish books". If I remove "Add soft hyphens" then the search function in my readers work if I use "Polish books".

A final remark. If I in a previous polished book do a new "Polish book" where I select "Remove soft hyphens" then the book is searchable. I tried that on the book mentioned in the first post.
This is a relief because I then don't have to replace the books in Calibre in order to make them searchable. |

I'd expect "soft hyphens" implemented by a 3rd party tool to break search. I'd never add them.
