My Libra 2 crashes or restarts every day

Hi,
for some time now my Libra 2 crashes every day, even several times a day, and I have to restart it. What happens, not every time but every day, is that when I exit a book, in the list of books some of the covers are no longer visible; if I try to open one it tells me that the file does not exist, if I press the NickelMenu it is empty, and if I press the “More” menu and then “Settings” sometimes it crashes and sometimes it restarts itself.

I think the thing started when an update of a Calibre add-on caused the space to disappear I don't know if before or after the italics tags (I don't want to say that this was the cause, but from then on this happens to me). I was using an older version of that add-on for a while, and the latest version of Calibre doesn't even need it anymore because it has incorporated the functions it did.

I used some kobopatch stuff, not much, and NickelMenu (for DropBox, night mode, ...).

It's true that the official kobopatch hasn't been updated for this firmware, but I used a version shared on this forum, and I hadn’t had any issues until this problem I say started.

I have reinstalled firmware 4.38.23171, so now I have nothing from kobopatch, but I still suffer crashes and have to restart with the power button, or it restarts itself when I try to enter the configuration menu.

The only thing I can think of is to uninstall NickelMenu and look for how to do a factory reset, but first I wanted to know if any of you have any suggestions.

Thank you very much.

My Libra 2 has never been particularly stable. It locks up (freezes) often, requiring a reboot. I have a vague recollection that there were two different iterations of the Libra 2 hardware, and I have the older one. It's very frustrating; I love the device, but use my Clara HD, which is very stable, much more often.

I also have the older Libra 2 (bought when released). It seldom crashes or freezes (once in several weeks or even months), but then I edit all my ebooks.

My Libra is heavily patched. I don't have NickelMenu installed, though.

I didn't realize there were two Libra 2s.

I thought there was a Libra and then the updated newer version: Libra 2.

So is this what they released? :

Libra
Libra 2 (first gen.)
Libra 2 (second gen.)

I have a Libra 2 revision 'F', probably comes from the last batch before it was discontinued. Never had any issues with it, no freezing or slowiness, nothing.

There's only one model on the Kobo site, N418. How do you know which revision you have?

You open it up and look at the label printed on the motherboard near the soldered battery connectors. The string will end in a + sign followed by 3 characters (+6A2 +6E0, +6F1 for example). The middle character is used as the Libra 2 revision. Currently, Rev A, E, F & G are known.

Currently I have 4 Libra 2 images (A, E, F & G).

The 3 Kobo Libra version were the Libra H2O, Kobo Libra 2 and Kobo Libra Colour. As far as I am aware, there was no Kobo Libra without an extension.

I have a V2 (by serial #) Libra2.
It now locks up about once a week , usually while transitioning (New chapter, back to main My Books) .

Known (by me) other ways to ABEND (this also applied to my other Kobo):
changing the structure (split, join or removal of files in the EPUB) without using KU to make the TOC (on the reader) synced.

Problem solved.
I ended up removing the micro SD card, creating a bit-by-bit image of it, and writing it onto a new card. I inserted the new card into the Libra 2, and it hasn’t frozen again since (it’s been over a week now, and before it used to reboot several times a day).

Since I cloned the original card, I assume its contents weren’t corrupted, and that the issue was simply with write operations failing. In fact, one of the things that happened right before the freezes/reboots was that I could no longer highlight text, and when I re-entered the book, everything highlighted in the last reading session was gone.
Thanks for your help, especially to DNSB.

Was this difficult to do? My symptoms are the same as yours were before you replaced your micro SD card. Thanks!

This shouldn't happen though. Why is this a thing with kobo. I realize maybe this happens with other readers but you just get a bricked device with no recourse, but I don't remember seeing problems like this with Kindles
