My experience was it depended on how I had the driver configured. The driver has an option to upload a cover along with the book. If this option is not selected the Kobo will extract the cover from the epub

But for me, that involves extra steps I don't wish to take, and negates the whole point of taking advantage of the Wifi I paid for, which when it works properly, is quick & simple. |

I'm curious, how do you use wifi for sideloading to your Kobo? While there are a few ways, they aren't well known like Send to Kindle. |

Especially now when it might have only one apart from the charging port and you have to buy a hub! Not just for USB devices, but for for an ethernet port, serial port, decent sound I/O etc.
1. Never had a problem with covers on Kobo. 2. Really only the thumbnails get much use, and only because you can't turn them off. 3. I don't see the covers on the paper books either unless I take it from the shelf. The My Books should have an option to list without thumbnails. Last edited by Quoth; 05-02-2025 at 05:10 AM. |

Of course, but they get used for many other things, so I've certainly got my money's worth.
And it's not just about having a feature like USB or Wifi, it is also about simple quick use, which I paid for. I turn my Kobo device on, turn wifi on, and sync to get my latest purchase(s) ... doesn't get simpler than that, providing all works as it should. Talking about that last thing. The very next time I synced after fixing all my Kobo cover images (missing or bad images, missing folders), syncing finally started working again, for the first time in well over a year. And it has remained working for over a month now, even though I now have a handful of cover images again, that need fixing. It is somewhat passing strange, that none of the cover images I've fixed, every go missing again, so I imagine that at some point I will have fixed all cover images, aside from latest additions which will likely continue to result in cover images failure at some point. It seems fairly clear to me, that there is a bug in the Kobo software, that is related to missing cover images or their folders, which prevents syncing from finishing. I don't think it is a direct relationship, as there is likely something else at play too. |

2. I browse via thumbnails, so they are desired very much indeed. And I also like to see the sleep cover image before I wake up the device and and when I send it to sleep .. feels more like a regular physical book that way. 3. I guess like me, you use a cover for your paperbacks. I always meant to make a clear version of my stitched vinyl covers, but never did get around to it, and then ebooks came along ... but I still might one day, as I have a huge paperback library with a large backlog. So my preference, is to see the cover when I grab a book and when I put it down. Mostly I tend to read my ebooks these days, as I also have an awful lot of them. In any case, as I said earlier, each to their own ... whatever floats your boat, makes you happy. |

I am very much about control and enhancement. In fact, many of my ebook related programs leverage aspects of calibre, work with it. In the end though, it is simply about me doing things my way. I have my own view of how things should be or be done, and I automate almost everything on my PC, my way. I enjoy the power that gives me, and take some measure of joy in the creation. I also like to understand what is going on, and not being a Python coder etc, means I have to do it myself to get enough of that. And of course, there is the challenge. |

And .....
![]() I use that for charging and side loading ebooks I purchase elsewhere, so definitely get my money's worth for it ... just from charging alone. What I wouldn't get my money's worth for, if I didn't use it, would be the wifi ability. I have no idea why you keep on ranting about this and ignore the other things I said. ![]() It's a bit like saying you have a car, and should be happy it can be towed by a horse, and not use the engine to get your money's worth. If you like, I can break it down into simple terms for you. ![]() Quite simply I paid for a device, that has a few bits of hardware, and cost me what it did, because of them. So yes I paid for the USB connector, and get the value of it. And likewise I paid for the Wifi hardware, and want to get the value of that. It is also far simpler and quicker to get my Kobo bought ebooks onto my device via wifi, so why wouldn't I use it, seeing as I paid for it. It's not hard, not rocket science, to understand this. P.S. Are you deliberately baiting me? Because in fact, you are acting a bit like a one liner troll. That's how you come across anyway. ![]() |

The full answer is that sending books to your Kobo with calibre work better via USB then it does via WiFi.
