Any rumors of a new 13-inch reader with frontlight?

Hey all, I'm wondering if there's any word of a new 13-inch device with front light coming from Boox (or another company?). Max Lumi 3? Boox Note Max Lumi? I'm looking to replace my old Max Lumi. The Note Max looks like a good option, but I get a lot of use out of the front light on my Lumi and wouldn't want to loose that feature. Anything on the horizon?

I am also waiting for a 13.3" w/frontlight to purchase. I would have bought the Note Max, but no frontlight is a deal breaker. I am essentially holding my $ until the "Tab X2" comes out (w/Carta-1300) ... although Onyx has not hinted that such a follow-up is immanent. Onyx has recently announced a color 13.3" device soon ... the "Tab XC", although I rather wait to have a crisp high-contrast black/white e-reader tablet, than a dark-background lower PPI color display e-reader/tablet.

The next one will be the Onyx Boox T13C (Kaleido 3) color e-ink tablet. At least it is named that way in China.

Yeah. T13C is up for sale tomorrow (25/04) in china. The price is 5999CNY. It comes with front light. Maybe there is a global device after some time

I'm looking for a black & white device that's just for text. But good to know Onyx is still releasing new large-screen readers with front light, hopefully a b&w device coming soon

I wouldn't count on it. They already have the Note Max and now the Tab XC. I don't see them releasing a Tab X2 to compete with their Note Max.

The Tab XC is apparently 300ppi (B&W) and 150ppi color. However, you can't set it to monochrome or disable the color. So what do these ppi numbers mean then?

Does it mean any B&W text / images will be rendered in 300ppi, and color text/images in 150ppi -- on the same page?

It means the Tab XC is going to be awful. The contrast is going to be rather poor. The colors will be washed out. The B&W will look like it has sparkles. It's going to be a disaster (IMHO).

Yes. That's how Kaleido works. Kaleido is an RGB filter placed on top of the screen, which means the colour PPI is lower than the BW PPI, due to multiple white pixels being required to simulate a single pixel in another colour, e.g. 2 white pixels --> 1 red, 1 green pixel in the colour filter = 1 yellow pixel.

Since the colour filter is always on top of the BW screen, you can never "turn it off". As a result, even BW content will look worse than on a purely BW panel, even though the panel is technically 300 PPI. The screen will also be darker, since much of the light is being blocked by the filter at all times. Some people are willing to make these tradeoffs in order to get colour, and other people are not.
