Kindle no longer mounted when plugged in
I recently applied the developer keystore update to be able to continue using KUAL and other enhancements. To accomplish this I plugged the PW4 in and copied the proper file over.
I finally got it applied, as KUAL still works, but since that point my PW4 no longer mounts when I plug it in. This is a Linux laptop and lsusb shows nothing changes when I plug it in. How can I diagnose and correct this? Would there be anything useful in the debug logs? What is the method to access them? It has been so long since I needed to do so that I forget. I have USBNET installed and can ssh over WiFi, so the PW4 is accessible to run any appropriate diagnostics from there. Help me get this back online. Dave |

The KUAL menu item also toggles SSH over USB. You need to toggle it back for mass storage mode.

Just did a bit more testing and determined this problem was not the PW4 but external.
In case someone else encounters this mystery here are the detailed circumstances. My laptop has two USB-A ports and a USB-C port. I use the two USB-A ports for a USB wifi dongle and a connection to an ABC switch sharing my keyboard, monitor and trackball. Given this I have a hub with three USB-A ports plugged into the USB-C port and that is where I plug the PW4 in. Apparently something zapped the hub as it was no longer passing through the data path from my PW4. After I unplugged the hub from the USB-C port and plugged it back in my PW4 was again able to connect properly. The test that gave this problem away was plugging the PW4 into my old laptop and finding it worked properly there. I hope this is helpful in case someone else encounters this problem. Dave |
