Unhappy Image resolution in KEPUB books is very low

Hi!

Images in my books have very bad resolution to the point every map, image and photo is extremely pixellated. When reading the same book in EPUB, there are no issues and the quality is good with sharp, clean and properly sized images that are not sized up to max. What do I do? I've only ever seen the opposite problem, e.g. on EPUB's.

And yes, I use Calibre.

My workflow, after fixing metadata and potential cover images:

1. Convert (Look & Feel -> Styling -> Removing color since it sometimes interferes with night reading mode)
2. Polish
3. Upload

I have the same workflow for my BF's Clara BW and on his the images look perfect and well-proportioned.

Are the original images so small?

Check your settings to make sure you aren't having calibre resize the images. Go to Preferences > Common Options > Page setup. Then set Output profile to Tablet and Input profile to Default profile. These will make sure the images are not modified during conversion. The output profile if not set to tablet will set a resolution for the images and adjust as needed. When set for tablet., the images will not be adjusted.

Hi! Your fix worked for some images (thankfully), but not all. For some reason a half title image in a book is still extremely pixellated and blown-up in size. On the Clara BW it looks perfect...

Are the book formats between the Clara BW and the Libra the same too?

What happens if you run kepubify (https://pgaskin.net/kepubify/) on the ePub rather than use Calibre?

Nothing changes.

I found an old thread talking about the same issues I have, and I just realised that my page breaks are also not working properly! Everything looks fine in Calibre ebook viewer and editor (epub format), but as soon as it's sent to my Libra 2 as kepub the issues appear.

@turnroot, Take one of the eBooks that doesn't display properly on the Libra 2 and use the ScrambleEbook plugin on the original eBook format and then post it here so we can have a look and see if we can find out what may be going on.

Here it is! One of my worst culprits.

The main issues are:
1) Half title image is extremely enlarged and pixellated
2) Page breaks are not proper in the title page, the last image appears on a whole new page for some reason

And in general all images are pretty low quality.

That is odd that the images are so small. Where did you purchase this eBook?

Consider that the halftitle image is a massive 179x109 pixels and the original code displays it as that size, zooming it to full screen on a Kobo ereader would look rather pixelated. Which for some reason is what happens when reading as a kepub.

You might want to report this to Kobo as an issue.
