Mostly no. Only if there's something I'd like to read again and can't find my physical copy. I never intended to migrate my entire physical library to digital.

To support my favorite author - James Rollins - yes. For other authors, no. Not on purpose anyway - but I have been known to make a few unintentional duplicate purchases.

I have repurchased, as an addition to my physical copies, so I can dispose of physical copies, and to replace long gone physical copies. All three reasons.

But not often.

I have a lot of authors on my ereaderIQ watch list for the specific purpose of replacing physical copies for a good price. I need to clear some shelf space somehow, and since I prefer to read ebooks now (mostly so I can change font size for my aging eyes! ) I find it is worth doing even if I'm not actively reading a book or series. I'll also replace books for full price if I'm in the middle of rereading a series.

There are a handful of authors that I am keeping physical copies either because it is a unique edition or signed, or just some of my favorite authors (Jordan, Heinlein, Burroughs, Kurtz and Eddings, Tolkien etc).

To misquote, you can have my signed Robert Heinlein books when you pry them out of my cold dead fingers. I literally bled for those books.

I'm sure there's a story here. Probably less interesting than the mental image that you procured them in some kind of brawl. But probably worth hearing, nonetheless.

The last couple of cons where I got books signed by RAH, there was a onsite blood donor clinic where either you could donate blood or be able to show proof that you had donated blood within the last 8 weeks before he would sign.

You can do a quick search on 'Robert Heinlein blood donor' for more information on RAH and blood drives.

Coincidentally, we shared the same blood type.

I sometimes repurchase some pbooks as ebooks when the pbook version is well worn and is going to have to be replaced anyway. Related is why I buy trade paperbacks of some comic books I already have. Often it is for convenience so I don't have to locate or damage the originals.

Guess those who medically can't donate blood were SOL?

All the ads by Canada Blood Services on the radio guilting me to donate somewhat stings because they rejected me more than once due to anemia.

I only saw one young lady who was rejected for low blood iron and her attempt to donate was sufficient to get a signature. She at least made the attempt and that was good enough?

I remember my 100th donation which was a dry bag donation. They had 5 donors at the same time and the blood was shipped to B. C. Women's Hospital as soon as we finished donating.

I can see how you might have been a little dry after donating 100 bags. I admire your determination though.

Dry bag just means no anticoagulant in the bag so the donated blood has a very limited life time. Basically from the blood donor clinic to the hospital and into the recipients veins. In this case, a Rh+ baby who was being born to a Rh- negative mother who had a previous pregnancy with a Rh+ child. These days there are treatments so the mother does not develop the antibodies.

Mostly I do the other way around. Buy a physical copy of an ebook I absolutely loved.
