Anyway maybe it's a production of some Chinese factory from parts of these three companies - I hope it's Kobo Aura HD inside

Sadly pointing to a source on AliExpress does not make that name any more sensible. Not to mention that they are showing it as available with 4, 16 or 32GB of internal storage. The Aura HD came with an internal 4GB µSD card with an external µSD card slot. However unless you happen to have a 12GB or 28GB µSD card in that external slot, 16GB and 32GB total storage is not going to work. The price marked down from $219.54 Cdn is also a bit odd since the Aura HD sold new for $169.99 Cdn.

The other item I would worry about is that the life of a lithium ion battery is between 5 and 10 years. Given the Aura HD was officially discontinued in March, 2015, the chances are very good that the battery is going to be a problem.

The photos used for the Kobo Aura HD are very old advertising photos as that home screen has not been in use in a rather long time.

I want to ask something about patching.
When patching do I need to set up the patches I will use in kobopatch.yaml , libadobe.so.yaml , libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml , librmsdk.so.1.0.0.yaml and nickel.yaml or this can be done after patching by activating the corresponding options in Kobo after patching.

I suggest you ask in the thread that contains the patches for firmware 4.38.23171. This is the latest firmware for your Aura HD. The patches are setup in kobopatch.yaml and all you have to do is decide which ones you want. But this is for the newer patches not the ones in this thread.

You will need to set the options either in the yaml files in the src folder or in the overrides section of kobopatch.yaml. There is no way to activate the options from your Kobo ereader.

I have decided not to use the latest kobo-update-4.38.23171 release and to use the previous kobo-update-4.38.21908 because new patch is unofficial and may have some problems.
Thank you for your reply

Thank you for your reply - so the rest of the *.yaml files in the src folder can be adjusted after the patch installation if I understood correctly
There is an either/or in what I wrote. You can either modify each .yaml file in the src directory individually or you can edit the overrides section in the kobopatch.yaml (saving a copy of the kobopatch.yaml for later use since copying the files from the .zip file will overwrite it).

The only way to modify your Kobo's firmware is to generate a KoboRoot.tgz file, copy it to your Kobo's .kobo directory and let it be installed. To generate a KoboRoot.tgz file with your desired patches, you need to select the patches to be used prior to the kobopatch.sh/kobopatch.bat being run to generate the KoboRoot.tgz to be installed on your Kobo ereader.

For me, installation is when I copy the KoboRoot.tgz to my Kobo ereader. Unzipping the kobopatch .zip file is not (IMNSHO).

Thank you very much to everyone who answered my questions

I have such a question - how can I find out the version of the original firmware and how to properly make it Backup in case of device bricked - I saw in the forum when I read that you can use AOMEI Backuper Standart but I forgot where it was, and a virus attacked my computer and needed reinstallation.
I do not have knowledge of Linux and Bash so please tell me how to 5 years mature little boy.

The recovery partition on your Aura HD N204B already has a copy of the original factory firmware which will be reverted to on a full factory reset. To make a copy of your µSD card, you will have to remove it from your Kobo ereader, insert it into your computer and use a program such as USB Duplicator Image Creator to create an image.

Since the Aura HD N204B was released in early 2013, the factory firmware will be 2.50 or earlier and you will need to do a manual firmware update before it will be able to connect to WiFi and download from Kobo.

Is there no other way without disassembling the device.I have a mild form of Parkinson's and my hands are shaking and I can't disassemble and reassemble it.

Thank you for your reply
I'm using 4.38.23171 and so are many others. The patches I am using to work and I'm using a lot of them.

The problem was that some offsets in the new firmware was changed. Some others have figured out the correct offsets. The patches won't be applied and then not work. They just won't be applied at all if they don't work.

There is no reason at all not to use 4.38.23171 and the patches. I've been using it for a while with no issue. I've not read of anyone else having a problem since the patches were sorted.
