Boox Palma reviews?

Hi,

The Boox site has the 1st edition Palma on sale for $199. Looking for reviews as I contemplate buying one. Primary interest for me is using it as a smaller sized eInk reader, and the ability to add various Android reading apps I'm already using. I understand the security risks and lack of support for Android 11.

Anybody using a Palma as a smaller reading device?

I had a Palma 1 about a year ago and returned it. I recently acquired a Palma 2 and will be keeping it. It seems to be faster and more legible than the first iteration. I use it mainly for short form reading, which might be why the increase in speed is worth the extra money.

I guess they're trying to get rid of the inventory of the original Palma? It looked to have decent reviews.

Be aware that most reviews of the Palma 1 are of the black version.

I have the white Palma 1. It uses a plastic screen, which was scratched very easily, so be sure to protect the screen if you get the white version. (The black version uses a glass screen that's apparently scratch resistant).

My other complaint for reading was that the volume down button would often turn several pages on one press. This seems to be fixed in the upcoming firmware. I have used the beta version of it for a couple of days and have not experienced this bug on it.

The light shining through on the edges seems to be the case with the Hibreak Pro, too. It's also light gray in colour.

I love reading on pocket readers. I use the Hisense A9 as my phone, so I always have it with me. At home I've started reading more on the Palma again, since the volume buttons have started working normally now with the new firmware.

I like the refresh of the HiBrak Pro even better than the one of the Palma
