I'm reading (I think) a kepub on my kobo right now, and it's reminding me why I always preferred the kindle. Massive borders I can't get rid of. Having to mess up my epub settings to try to make it a bit more usable. Sure, my kobo OS hasn't been updated for many years - I stopped it connecting after updates kept making things worse - and maybe it's better these days, but I've rarely had major issues with the actual reading part on any of my kindles. |

OTOH a 0 margin on my Kobo is 0. That is, if the BOOK does not have a bigger one. Like @Sirtel, I edit my CSS so I only get changes I want. A clean styled book, this costs me 30 seconds. A garbage (inconsistent, stylesheet per chapter...) styled book has taken me up to a half hour to repair the majority of the trash.

Something is off somewhere. My Kobo can send text to nearly the edge of the screen, whereas Kindle margins are two wide, even at their narrowest setting.

IIRC Kobo's margin settings are added on top of the margins set in the CSS, so if you have massive CSS margins, the only way to fix it is to either edit the book or use KOReader to override the book's CSS.

I don’t understand all the animosity toward Amazon. I still can download their books on my computer, run it through Calibre and covert to epub and read it on a multitude of apps on my iPad Mini. Amazon seems to generally have the best price, widest selection, offers free monthly books through Prime, many through Unlimited. And as an aside I like their reader App on my Mini. Have had to trouble sending epub books to Kindle.

The argument I had with Amazon was they have effectively blocked me from downloading my books to my PC as I use Linux so download and transfer by USB was the only option I had (when talking about downloading to your PC) But again for me the removal of D&T was just the final straw.

Download on my Windows 10 (desktop) or Windows 11 (laptop) to Kindle app version 1.40.1. When I borrow from library I use Adobe Digital Editions version 4.5.3. To move files between Apple devices and internet drives I use the File Browser app by Stratospherix Ltd. Best utility app on my iPad. It will send to Kindle and also plays music and videos, read epub and PDFs. |

But if it works for you thats good, it just wasn't an option for me, but I actually don't mind as it's forced me away from Amazon and led me to discover some great alternatives!

Is that Kindle app version correct? You are unable to download any books released on or after 2023-Jan-05 with that version whereas any version higher than 2.4.0 has DRM that does not have a public removal option.

Well, I am not a sophisticated computer user. When I got the laptop over a year ago I installed the Kindle app version from the installer app that I had saved. I just checked the version to answer the previous post.it is indeed correct. I load the plugin into Calibre. No problems.
