Calibre KoboTouch plug-in for Clara 2E

The late great David Forrester created and maintained the Kobo Touch plug-in for Calibre. Calibre 6 (the current release) supports all Kobo models, including the newest, the Clara 2E.

But some of us, because of hardware constraints or just personal preference, prefer to use an older version of Calibre. If you are using Calibre 3.48 or Calibre 4.23, the attached modified version of the Kobo Touch plugin will add support for the Clara 2E.

Forum member Mongorhead very kindly did the heavy lifting, modifying David's code to add support for the Clara 2E. All thanks go to him.

Installation and Use:

Download the zip file but do not unzip it!
Follow the instructions under "How do I install a plugin manually?" in Introduction to plugins.
Disable the KoboTouch and KoboTouchExtended driver. This is done on the Plugin page of the preference and can be done when installing the driver.
Configure the plugin. You will probably want to copy the configuration from the driver that you are using. Again, this can be done from the Plugin page of the preferences.

Is there a newer version of this that adds the the Clara BW? I can't seem to find one. Or does this plugin need modifying to add the Clara BW?

I gave the wife a Kobo for Xmas thinking it would work like my Clara 2E with series and collections but life is never that easy. Calibre didn't recognise the Clara BW and I had to use USER DEFINED USB DRIVER to recognise a device was attached. I can send books but I don't get the series or collections info. Note I'm using calibre 4.12, I maybe should go back to 3.48 or on to 4.23 but if it isn't broke I don't want to break it.

You need to go forward to the latest version. Never stay with an old version of calibre if you are able to run the latest version. What OS are you using?

I'm still on Win7 as I have programs that only run on win7. I could go forward to 4.23 but I doubt that would make a difference and it seems like the recommended course for Win7 is to install 3.48. As my 4.12 runs ok I'm not keen to change it (and I think I recall I broke something when I tried to update). The plugin I'm trying to change is for 3.48 anyway but was working ok on my 4.12.

The changes to the driver.py seem not that complicated but I don't understand where or how fwversion is used. It's defined in the driver but never used as far as I can see.

I've got a revised KoboTouch348 plugin working for the Clara BW (running on Calibre 4.12, but should work on 3.48 too). I copied the changes done for Clara 2E from the original KoboTouch348 but this was not enough, I had to also define BCD. In theory 2E should have need to do this to include 0x401 so not sure why it worked before, there must be another definition somewhere.

I can now use collections and series on both Clara 2E and Clara BW (with latest firmware). Calibre (4.12) also recognised Clara 2E and Clara BW as devices.

How did you get Calibre 4.12 on Windows 7? I thought the binaries were rigged to refuse installation when your Windows version was deemed too old, unless you edited the installer in some way.

When I installed Calibre 4.12 my win7 wasn't too old. I stopped updating Calibre when it wanted a later version. If you want to do a "new" install on Win7 then the recommended version is 3.48 I believe. FYI previous versions of Calibre can be found here. I've not bothered to go up from 4.12 as it is working ok and I don't want to break it now 4.x is unsupported.
