What I was expecting is for the next generation of Kindles to have an updated Scribe-type device (same size, but with added functions) which we got, but also a Paperwhite-sized device you could write on. And there's no reason I could think of that both of them couldn't have been in color. Frankly, I didn't think they'd come out with a color device right now, because in terms of color saturation, Kaleido 3 isn't much to write home about. But if they were just going to make a Kaleido 3 device anyway, there's no reason they couldn't have made it pen-enabled. I recently got a Kobo Libra Colour, and it's not perfect by any means, but I think it shows a weakness in Amazon's strategy. If I were buying a reader now, i'd definitely take a serious look at Kobo. |

If you think that Amazon is not mining those library loans for customer information, one relative of mine who lives in the USA and who borrowed several library books on pregnancy would be happy to disagree. They were flooded with Amazon's directed email advertising— the "We found something you might like" emails—trying to sell baby clothing, furniture, diapers (disposable and washable), breast pumps, bottles, etc. for months. |

Doing a quick search, it appears that Amazon doesn't charge extra for library loans, and it looks like Overdrive is already supported by UK libraries. So why would it be too expensive?

Last time I talked to an American librarian, the cost was $0.08-0.12 for each library loan plus Amazon's bandwidth fees which depends on the size of the ebook file. Last edited by DNSB; 12-26-2024 at 03:52 PM. |

As a counter example: https://www.reddit.com/r/LibbyApp/co...nd_my_library/ And it is interesting that there are concerns about privacy and ebook library loans, for example Canada, but library loans through Kobo are fine in Canada (and the U.K.) |
