Kindle Paper white

There is a navigational ToC (it does not reflect the print version as the ebook does not have the author names)

Various links within references are live in the text and seem to work fine…except for .pdfs…which Kindle indicates in a window, cannot be read on the tablet

When I clicked on the URL links on the copyright page (www.copyright.com, etc.), it took several tries for the websites to open and view. I didn’t have a problem with URL links opening in References.

First a Paperwhite is not a tablet but an e-ink device.
It has an experimental browser that is slow.
PDF does not render well on the paperwhite.

Does that answer your unasked questions?

Yes, thank you so much!

Again one more question see below:

Various tables (such as Table 3.1, 23.1, 42.1, etc.) that were landscaped for print, appear as portrait on the Kindle and are difficult to read. I assume that is a Kindle default, no landscaped material?

Generally material is presented so that the content is bottom-down in the orientation that you are using the device. Try switching your kindle to landscape orientation and see if the tables are more readable that way.

You can also pan and zoom images to see more detail.
