First glance indicates my Forma might be "whole" again but I'll do some more using and checking.

If (IF?) it is now "whole", any explanations as to what has transpired?
I suggest you install NickelMenu. You can have an option to rescan all of your eBooks. It sounds to me like your Kobo never did the scanning for new eBooks after you unplugged it from the computer.

Here is my NickelMenu config that has the option to rescan all eBooks.

You mentioned disconnecting your Kobo and then turning it on. At what point did you turn the Kobo off?

Don't really know. I probably unplugged it before turning if OFF...this is what I normally do. All of this makes me wonder if I turned it OFF then ON.

I'm also noting that although others in this thread have mentioned ejecting your kobo safely before disconnecting it, you have never confirmed that you're actually doing this step. "Exiting calibre" is not a safe eject of your Kobo. Nor is yanking the cable out without ejecting/unmounting it.

Thanks, I wasn't aware that a question went unanswered.

Yes, before disconnecting, Windows is always invoked to safely remove hardware and eject media.

Use the eject from Windows Explorer and wait until you go back to the home screen after the eBook(s) import before you pull the USB cable form the Forma.

I always wait until I'm either at the home screen or at the home screen after the processing depending on why I plugged in.

I just wait until the connected and charging screen disappears.

Yes, waiting longer for Import to finish and Unread list to update is likely only important if reconnecting USB to update series info etc (needs a setting on Calibre or plug-in for that to happen automatically).

I always throw salt over my left shoulder, turn around 3 times, and spit 3 times. No corrupted database yet.

I always wait until the the importing screen goes away. I used to wait until the new books showed on the My Books screen with the covers showing, but this seem to take a long time now.

I rely on the Windows popup that says device can safely be removed.

As some others here, I wait until the books have been processed and the device has returned to the home screen.

By waiting, I can use NickelMenu to reconnect tot he computer without having to unplug/replug the USB cable. Then whent he metadata is updated and I've ejected, I can unplug.
