Version 7.3: Cover browser broken
After updating to 7.3 I can't close the cover browser window.

Confirm. Windows 10. cover browser just spawns a new window if you try and close. (I do not use the cover browser)
Reverted to 7.2

How are you trying to close it, with a mouse or a custom keyboard shortcut… if latter see ==>> Version 7.3 shortcuts

I've now tested it in regular installed 7.3, works fine for me.

I don't normally use the cover browser so didn't see the behavior changes.

In 7.3 on windows 10:
  • If not in a separate window, in "narrow" view it opens to the right of the booklist. It used to open over the booklist, which is where I want it. I don't see a preference that controls this.
  • Using in a separate window:
    • If I use the cover browser button it opens and closes as expected.
    • If I click on the X in the cover browser window title bar, it closes and immediately reopens over a now-empty window.
    • If after clicking the X I click the cover browser button, the window doesn't close. However, now the X works.
    • With the "real" cover browser open (using the button), when I close one of the empty windows with the X it either doesn't go away or reopens very quickly, now showing the cover browser. The window where it was shown is now empty.
    • If calibre thinks the cover browser is closed, the X works on the empty windows.

@chaley: the cover browser always opened to the right of the book list in narrow view. In narrow view the book details is at the bottom the tag browser at the left and the cover browser at the right. It is above the book list only in wide view. DO you mean you want it to cover the book list? IIRC that's no longer possible.

Nope. Here is a screen capture from calibre portable 6.28.1 showing the cover browser on top in narrow view. TBH it is useless on the right.

It may be that it used to decide its position based on monitor aspect ratio? Though I dont recall that being the case.

On MacOs 14.2.1 with calibre 7.3: I use the cover browser in a separate window. It opens OK but I am not able to close it using the mouse.

With 7.2. this (small but annoying) problem does not exist.

Can't say. I never use wide screen monitors. Both of mine are 1280x1024. Windows.
