One-Click Install Packages for KOReader & Plato

I have windows 10 by the way. I don’t think Koreader is too, but just going to focus on Plato for now.

When I launch Plato, I click the following:
On Board > Library > KePub

Then I select a book. All my books are from Libby/Overdrive. But when I click a book title, it shows the 3 dots/loading thing, and then I'm back at the default Nickel Menu and no book has been open. Why does this happen?

Note: when installing, I extracted the files first. Then saw the Powershell instructions. I didn’t know how to undo the extraction, so I just continued and followed the powershell instructions, essentially downloading them (Koreader and Plato) twice. Would this cause the problem?

ok apparently it’s the file size? If I open a book only kilobyte size (e.g. 409 K, 580 K, etc.) then the book opens. Trying to open a book that’s megabyte size (2.1 M, 32M, etc.) causes the crash/going back to the default Nickel program. Anyone else experiencing this and/or knows how to fix it? Majority of my books are MB size, unfortunately.

I think it just sends you back to Nickle because Plato/KOReader don't support DRM. Overdrive books (being borrowed) would have DRM applied. I can open large non-DRM books just fine, but not Overdrive ones.

It means Plato crashed. There should be an error message in info.log. Could you make a bug report here or at least post the error message in the relevant thread?

@WarrenUK: Why you would inflict such a terrible device upon yourself is a mystery to me (its only saving grace is its unique form-factor, but it's otherwise uniformly terrible); but yes .

On Windows 11, unsigned Powershell scripts are disabled. So, in order to use the install.ps1 script, you need to open a Powershell terminal, navigate to the folder in which you have saved both the ZIP file and and the install.ps1 script, and enter these commands:

./install.ps1
Set-ExecutionPolicy Default

A year late and a dollar short. PowerScript signing was done to death a year or so back. See the 2nd method in this thread for instance for the GUI method. The CLI method has also been mentioned multiple times. Do a quick search on this thread for executionpolicy.

any time that Nickel has to render the koreader.png, ie. in My Books or Home, even after multiple reboots. KOReader and Plato both launch and run fine, though. Is this a new regression? I don't see anything in the kfmon logs at all.

@Frogm4n: That one would be tied to the *kfmon.png* icon. Has *that* one been fully processed?

There is *definitely* a matching log entry for that message, so I'd be curious to actually see the matching log .

That was my mistake. I copy/pasted the error from the previous commenter as an example, but I didn't paste the error I see on my own Kobo. What I'm seeing is:

[KFMon] Not spawning koreader.sh: still processing!

You are best to use NickelMenu to launch KOReader because with NickelMenu, you do not havr to install again after every new firmware update.

The request for logs (/usr/local/kfmon/kfmon.log) and details still stands ;o).

I'd also run a database & filesystem integrity check, just in case it's something obvious .

Hi (thanks for your work on software)

Symptom:
Activating "Night mode" makes the screen all white.
I can deactivate it by guessing where the buttons are.
Factory reset device, reinstalled and retried. Same symptom.

It worked great on my Kobo Forma 2
