My library disappeared!

I just updated Calibre to the newest version from a fairly old version - and my library disappeared!

I am NOT a member of the digeratii...

When I click on my library icon it tells me where it is - but no clue as to how I do something to access it. I am lost and confused. Help will be much appreciated!

Thanks! But I had already found that page, and still can't figure out what I should do. I fear an errant keystroke could destroy my library. I have been using Calibre for many years, back when it first became available, and without problems until now. I am 81 years old and still struggling to keep up...

You need to find your library - do a file search for metadata.db. Hopefully you'll only find one. The folder it's in should be your library folder containing a bunch of author folders and book title folders within them.

Which operating system and version do you use - Windows, Apple OSX or MacOS, or Linux (distro ?)

"Better" - much thanks for reaching out. I did find the file. And is saved to a thumb drive just in case,,,

So now that I know where it is, please advise me on what to do next?

I am using Windows 10.

One - click the Switch/create tool in the Library icon drop down



Two - that will pop this dialogue box



Three - click the blue folder button and browse to folder in which you found the metadata.db file - don't open the folder - select the folder and click Select Folder. That will take you back to the calibre popup dialogue box.

Before clicking OK in the calibre popup make sure the "Use a previously existing library…" radio button is selected.

You should be able to switch to that library.

Where is the library?

In case it wasn't obvious, the library is the *folder* that contains metadata.db.
And *all* the files and sub-folders in that folder.
