Blank popups/tooltips in the main interface

Hi everyone,

I have recently moved to a Linux machine (Wayland/Arch); since then the popups/tooltips—when hovering over menu entries and book field—are blank (see image below). I have attached debug logs at the end of this message.

I was wondering if someone has already encountered this issue: if yes, is there a way to fix it?

Using Calibre here on Linux Mint since version 18.x and now on 21.2 with Mate desktop. I've had one or two themes with odd popup style. I currently use an MS Server 2003 style for "controls", a Windows XP Metallic for Window border/decoration and Oxygen Icon set. But currently I think all themes work and all Window Managers / Compositing work, though some lack transparency to see destination when doing drag & drop (move or copy).

I'd expect some other programs (maybe only if using same QT) to have the same pop-up bug.

Almost certainly a wayland issue, I strongly recommend staying with X11, Wayland is not ready.

Thanks Kovid (for all your work primarily!) and Quoth, I understand that this problem is certainly linked to Wayland and/or my theme's compositor, I will switch back to X11 and change the theme to see if this fixes the issue...
