Every time I sideloaded from Calibre ePubs I get a message No
Longer Supported... So what Format Do I use?

Have you updated Calibre recently? There was a new update that syncs with the new Kobo firmware 4.37.21533.

I bought a book earlier today, Isolate by L. E. Modesitt Jr. and downloaded a DRM-free ePub. But it had a bunch of Kobo formatting in it. Check the attached screenshot. It looks like a kepub to me.

I also bought the book and ran it through kepubify. It only made minor changes and left the Kobo span tags alone, so it definitely appears that the publisher pre-converted the file, since it's a direct download and not using ADE for DRM.

I've had the same issue with a book purchased from Kobo. IMO a book downloaded as .epub should not contain kobo spans, doubt that complies with the correct published version.
Note: the calibre plugin "Modify epub" can remove all these kobo spans.

I use Kobo Touch Extended, so it definitely will. But this is the DRM-free ePub downloaded using Firefox and Kobo's website.

Eh, I'm not too fussed about it. The book will still work as a regular ePub on my Nooks. I'm more annoyed by whatever genius at the publisher set the default font size as small.

The Kobo spans were just weird. I wouldn't have even mentioned them if Barbara hadn't started this thread.
