Kindle Touch failed jailbreak

After deregistering my Kindle Touch to reregister it (at Amazon's suggestion in chat) to fix an apparent book installation problem, I found that it is now too old for Amazon to register it.

I have since tried multiple times to jailbreak it with Yifan Lu's method but it doesn't take, always restarting as a normal unregistered Kindle.

Any suggestions? I see an MP3 method mentioned but it has apparently been removed from his site.

More info, the model is D01200 and firmware is 5.3.7.3

That serial number looks like it comes from a Kindle Fire/Fire tablet. Does your screen display color?

What serial number? I only gave model and firmware, it is a 4th gen e-ink Kindle Touch reader (also have 4th gen non-touch and 3rd gen keyboard, all 5.3... or lower firmwares).

My bad! I misread your post as referring to the first few digits of a serial number instead of a model number.

In that case, my recommendation would be to try NiLuJe's jailbreak
method (here), which is an updated version of Yifan Lu's method. Beyond that, though, I'm not sure.
