Appearance change and lost libraries

My PC had hung up and I needed to force restart it. I thought I had managed to close calibre before the force restart but apparently not. When I opened calibre after the reboot, my libraries were missing and all my preferences were gone like the main menu button selection. I had to go through the welcome wizard to find a library. It appears my plugins are still there and my custom columns. Is there any way to get back my previous settings?

From a backup? You should really do one (configuration folder) after every significant configuration change to allow you to get back close to what you had.

What probably happened, was something interfered with the normal, calibre use of those files (history, settings...) and the file became corrupted (and purged when calibre found it bad)

Hmm, it's possible I still have a copy somewhere from the last time I started with a new PC or reformatted. That would either be exact or close as I haven't changed that stuff in a while. Thanks. I hadn't thought about that type of backup of settings before but I should have.

search your PC for metadata.db
Use switch/create: use existing, to switch there
note: the 'per Library' part of settings are kept there.
The config folder is for (overall) user settings and some of the PC's install locations (like where the Libraries are).

Thanks, my old PC was still mostly intact and I was able to get the correct files. Only had a few things I needed fix.
