Yes, you can, but in the dark it is my experience that I’ll likely create a highlight instead. The swipe zone can be finicky. When you can’t afford a mistake because you share a bed, it’s better to use the GUI to adjust the brightness down to 5% then tap on the left side of the slider to incrementally get it down to 1%.

Is there a way to make nickelmenu execute something without tapping a menu item?

Can you perhaps share more details about what you're hoping to accomplish? At its core, NickelMenu is about creating custom menu entries so the short answer to your question would seem to be, “No.” But there are, for example, chain-type actions which depend not on the user pressing a menu entry, but on the result of a previous action. However, each chain of actions still does ultimately start with a menu entry that the user must press. (…So far as I understand.)

Ive been scouring this forum for couple months now and ive run in to dead ends. KSM seems to be a no go because koreader depends on some stuff done by Nickel. Couldnt figure out rc scripts either. Gonna be bit of a rant but I keep finding comments like "its not safe" or "no one needs that" and thats just insanely frustrating. I dont particularly care about the safety of an ereader never minding how unlikely it is for it to crash in a way thats recovery function is inaccessible, and most importantly im not a frequent reader and i have adhd. On the lucky days that i feel like sitting down and reading each extra tap and second of waiting makes it that much more likely for me get distracted with something else.

@Etruj: Assuming your device block is correct, and you are indeed using a Libra, first of its name: echo 0 > /sys/class/backlight/lm3630a_led/color The range is [0, 10], but I can never remember which end is warm and which is cold ;p. (You should be able to stick that in a cmd_spawn NM action, much like the ioctl call discussed earlier for brightness). |
