Sepsis perhaps - which can be caused by any infection.

I developed sepsis in 2019, probably from a mild UTI. It advanced to septic shock within an hour of symptom onset (shivering). After emptying my bowels majorly, I collapsed onto the floor unable to move. My mobile phone was where it always is - on my desk. It was hours before I could make enough noise to attract the attention of neighbours, which included a nurse who called for an ambulance.

I was in hospital for just over 3 weeks, starting with 12 days in an ICU where they pumped me full of antibiotics to clear the infection - strong antibiotics give me the runs. After discharge, it took several months to get my bowels back to 'once-day in-the-morning' normalcy.

Lessons: a) don't ignore mild infections, b) if you live alone make sure you can raise an alarm - had I not had a washing machine to bang on and open windows to shout through who knows…

What I want is a wearable alarm that doesn't need to be within a Bluetooth signal of a mobile phone that can be worn on the wrist that isn't the size of a golf ball.

Yes, we're part of a minority. But I still wear a full N-95 one any time I'm indoors outside of my own home.

A real N-95 is fairly effective even one-way, as long as you replace them every 8 hours or less.

The local health care facilities still have it mandatory. And I've never seen an employee with it down below their nose. Patients, yes. But the employees are good with it.

Just wanted to warn folks that they might need a day off for their second shots.
I'm getting my second shot next Friday. So I'll have the weekend to recover! I'll report back on how I found it.

Do you use any smart devices (Google Home, Amazon Echo, ...)? Maybe you could setup a panic phrase?

Going to be the same here - woke up with very sore arm with rock hard lump at the injection site - going to take it easy today -

Excellent. My DW is getting her second next week. (First week of the month is busy time for local pharmacist, so waiting a week is preferred. And still well within the range of protection.)

I'm just so pleased seeing all the responses from people taking Hitch's advice about getting vaccinated against shingles. Hoping that everybody's recoveries from the vaccines are quick and easy and the vaccines are effective in preventing you from developing shingles.

Ah, excellent. I still have purple "spots" on my torso. Not rash, but...spots? I didn't scratch, truly, so I have no idea what on earth they are, but everything I've read about the Shingrix vaccine is, wait until your Shingles "rash" is gone so...? Hard to know. (What was that old song about the Purple-something People eater? Yup, that's me.)

Yup, that's me, the Vaccine Heroine du jour. MWAHAHAHA!

Truly, I'm glad to see it, too. As I've said and bored everyone here with for 3 months now, GOD, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

No, I dont have any smart devices of any sort, seems a bit like overkill for this.

And, I'd prefer something I can wear when I leave home, better yet, a 5G pacemaker with an NFC alarm button. I'm seeing my cardiologist in a couple of weeks, if I remember I'll ask him if such a thing exists.

I fell almost 7 weeks ago and landed on my back. It wasn't so bad the first two weeks, but the pain has gotten very bad at times. My bad knees are worse. Today I made appointments with two doctors. The knee doctor will be a return visit. I want to get cortisone shots (on the chance that my knees will feel good the next day) and to discuss a knee replacement of the right one. The day after that I will see a back doctor in the same office. Will probably have an x-ray to find out what the damage was to my back.

Across the street a man dressed as Spongebob playing the theme song loudly. It looks like it’s for some game for primary school aged kids (probably organised by a daycare) since groups of overexcited screaming kids come by to get a stamp.

It hasn’t even been half an hour and I’m ready to yeet his Bluetooth speaker in the canal.

Personally, if I was very worried and thought I needed something like a life alert, any backup device (that I already had) would be welcome.

Coincidentally, my cousin just passed out and fell and was unconscious, and he was wearing a device that contacted some service that sent an ambulance.

It turned out to be an interesting morning. One of the kiddies ran into a cyclist (the adults minding each group were often better at keeping an eye on their phone than on the kids), knocking her to the ground, splitting her knee open. We called an ambulance for her because not only was it a very deep cut but she couldn't put any weight on her leg, so it might be a bigger injury. She was taking to the hospital. Hopefully she's okay.

Spongebob called the police because according to him the lady wasn't allowed to cycle there (not true). So the police came, a neighbor showed their security camera footage to the police and Spongebob and the other adults were sternly told off because they weren't minding the kids and letting them play on the road (which is pedestrian only from noon until 7 or 8pm, but this was before noon). Spongebob also had to give all the details of the daycare he works for to both the police and the injured lady for insurance reasons.
