Sorry to hear about your father. I've still not experienced much discomfort or downtime. Having never really developed any cough, I'm hoping that will allow me to skip one that lingers. Dad is a spry 86. He felt a lot better after 2 days of the Paxlovid treatment. We've discovered that for some odd reason, we've both developed late-night, sheet-drenching, neck sweats! I've never heard of such drastic, hyper-localized sweating before. I thought for a minute that I may have finally gotten my drooling super-power, but no such luck.

As for the masks.... I still wear one indoors in public places; why not? It's not that bad and it might do me some good and it might do someone else some good. But I'm part of a tiny minority these days.
Thank you.

Down here in southern New England I wouldn't say it is a tiny minority; I would call it a teeny tiny itsy bitsy minority. Realistically, the only people I see wearing masks are some employees, and a small number of the aged. Heck, when I went to the pharmacy for my third covid booster last fall, some of the pharmacy employees weren't wearing masks.

Some of the healthcare facilities near me have recently gone from mandatory to optional. Even when it was mandatory, most of the staff wore the mask pulled down below their noses, so it was nothing but performative theater.

The last time I had a food based illness it was a case of the runs. Fortunately I was OK otherwise. But it did last for about 5 days.

WOW that's a long run, no pun intended. I don't think I've ever had a food-based duration like that. Fluey stuff or stomach virus, sure, but never from food. My food disasters have been 24 hours, give or take.

Well, I'm not 100% sure it was food based. But we don't know what else it could have been from.

Got some pads so I could sleep without worry. And at the time, we only had one bathroom. But fortunately there was no issue with getting to the bathroom.

Now we have two full bathrooms. So if anything like that was to happen again we'd be OK.

I have a rule, no houses, vacation rentals, etc. in which there are fewer bathrooms and toilets than there are butts, for that reason. We live out in the boonies now and if I had an urgent need for a bathroom, it would be fugly, to find one.

That sounds utterly miserable, glad that's a past trouble and not a current one. Like Hitch, most of my food issues have resolved themselves within a day or so. But between 1 day and 5 days leashed to the bathroom, I think I'll choose C) None of the above, please!

When I was younger, I had food poisoning from a salad. I popped a blood vessel in my eye from extreme vomiting and went to the emergency room. I thought it was cool (the popped blood vessel) at the time.

YMMV - my second shingrix shot has worse side effects than a tetanus shot - I can't move my very sore arm, have absolutely no energy, can't focus ... just a warning - I'd still rather go through this than have shingles

Do you have reactions to flu shots or other vaccines? Wondering, cuz I asked my Dr. about effects of the shingles vaccine and she told me there's typically nothing special, no different than a flu shot.

My doctor told me to plan to feel sick with the shingles shots, but she has wanted me to get them for a long time. I would go if I felt normal, but I have a lot of back pain from a fall 6 weeks ago and my knee arthritis has been very bad as well. I managed to get out yesterday to swim laps, but just a short walk today with laundry in a wheeled bag knocked me out today. I get very sore from the covid shots and sometimes with the flu shots, but I am up to date with them.

My doctor warned me that shingrix shots could hit me very hard - to be prepared to lose a day or two afterwards. I tolerate vaccines fairly well - sore but movable arm and sometimes mild fever/lassitude. I barely noticed the first shingrix shot - mild soreness only. But the second one has hit me hard - which I'm interpreting as my body launching one heck of an immune response.

Just wanted to warn folks that they might need a day off for their second shots.
