Not to mention the possibility of using color=transparent. Though you might have to quote the message to see those characters, they still count.

Such as a suggestion that remedial math might be in some people's future!

Frankly, I'd rather read pbooks. I love the feel of them and the ease of flipping through or back and other things. But the space required to store them, the cost, and my diminished eyesight make ebooks a necessity. I still gaze longingly at some of the pbooks I have.

I'm the opposite. I dislike paper books. They're heavy and uncomfortable to hold, you can't customize anything (font, line height etc) and you can't search them. And I've never liked the feel and smell of paper books.

I still have quite a lot of paper books, but I very rarely read them. Only if there is no ebook edition and it's something I really, really want to read. Otherwise I don't touch them. It always amazes me to read about someone liking the feel and smell of paper. Ugh.

Is a bit more painful to drop 300 books on your feet than it is to drop an eReader containing 300 eBooks.

That is a fixed layout children's book. Another format that is not supported on e-ink Kindle devices.

It's odd that the product page for that book has no list of supported devices.

I was looking in the wrong place. It definitely does not work on Kindle devices.

I wonder if it could be freed using the older Kindle for Android method.

I definitely prefer to read on an E-ink device. But I still like to get nice print editions occasionally.

I hope to never have to hold, own, dust, carry, box, move, loan (and subsequently ask to have the loaned book returned), smell, or feel a print book ever again. I miss nothing about them. Especially not waiting on them to be physically shipped to my quality-book-store/library-devoid location.

It should be possible. However the result will be in Amazon’s variant of fixed-layout which is not supported by calibre and many non-Kindle readers.

Yeah, I agree. I guess I miss the stuff 'around' buying books. Going into used book stores, stumbling on that gem you've been looking for, browsing among the stacks at an excellent book store like Aunties in Spokane or Powell's in Portland. But clearly I don't miss that enough to switch back.

And the switch to shopping for ebooks has its own perks. Now when I buy old midlist books, the author actually gets paid, unlike when I bought used paperbacks. And using ereaderIQ has a similar feeling to stumbling on something unexpected, when a book you added to your wishlist months ago unexpectedly goes on sale.

Unfortunately Amazon's update system only works on books you've "purchased", and only if they've never been read through KU at anytime. Any book I read on KU, whether I purchased it later or just re-read on KU, doesn't get the updated versions, and I still have to contact Amazon support to force the updated version to come through. It 99% of the time doesn't show an update link on the manage your content page, even though you you there's an update.
