Thanks for that. I could tattoo it on my arm and I'd still mess it up.
That ACSM Calibre plug-in has been terrific. Having to use ADE gave a process that was almost identical to buying from Amazon and using K4PC. The plug-in saves me some steps. Now we just need to keep Kobo from turning evil. |

I've bought ebooks from the House of Random Penguins and Download from Content & Devices often had generic covers. But often they have newer covers on the Website anyway that seem stupid, so I find the older ones with Calibre.
I presume that's what PRH stands for? Often they have clueless CSS/HTML too. |

Just wanted to check - is a 6th gen PW2 good enough? The first message said 4th and 5th are best but I only managed to get 6th.
Also - Is it possible to extract downloaded books from a jailbroken PW2 running 5.12.2.2? |

Yes. Penguin, Random House and their imprints. The issue seems mostly endemic to them; the only non-associated imprint I’ve run into this problem with is Farrar, Strauss and Giroux.

Yesterday I was unable to download and transfer via usb from my pc any prime reading ebooks. Amazon had disabled this function for me. Of course no one at Amazon customer service was any help. I have never subscribed to kindle unlimited but a mod on the Amazon device forum suggested they might be disabling this function for prime reading ebooks as those are a subsidiary of kindle unlimited. I am still able to download and transfer via usb purchased Amazon ebooks, borrowed public library books (Overdrive) and the free prime first reads ebooks, they just disabled this process for prime reading ebooks for me. None of the 4 Amazon customer service people I spoke with last night had a clue. Always a new disappointment with Amazon, continually increasing prime membership fees while reducing prime membership benefits. No behemoth company is ever too big or clever to fail; hope they get some less creepy less greedy people at the top soon.

It's possible to get the books files from a non-jailbroken Paperwhite 2. But KFX format won't be decryptable. You'd need a Kindle that doesn't support KFX format at all to decrypt books downloaded directly to it. eta: unless it happens to be one of the few books which isn't available in KFX format. Strangely, now my Raymond Chandler books have covers in my library and on that menu on the bottom of the screen. But when I put it to sleep, I still see the generic Vintage books title page. The most recent chandler covers are pretty damn ugly to me, so it's not a great loss. |

I bought a kindle paperwhite 1 (5th gen) as we lost our previous kindles in a recent house move and haven't been able to locate them. I downloaded a book to the kindle which was published after Jan 3 and tried to sideload it into Calibre but I got the following error message:
"calibre, version 6.13.0 Not Implemented: The following books are in KFX format. KFX is a virtual book format, and cannot be transferred from the device. Instead, you should go to your "Manage my content and devices" page on the Amazon homepage and download the book to your computer from there. That will give you a regular AZW3 file that you can add to calibre normally. Click "Show details" to see the list of books." Except I can't download it from Kindle for PC and get it into Calibre. It won't download in AZW3 format. I looked at the Kindle for Android option but my brain broke a little. I'm not sure I'm techy enough to get it to work. Any suggestions? |
