Bricked 11th gen 5.14.2(take 2)

Hi guys, gonna try to tackle this again. Late November early December I tried doing the "Watch this" method with this kindle and somehow really made a mess of it. Gave up when i got the head cold from hell which laid me up for several weeks and put it aside since then. Finally I'm gonna try to somehow repair it again.

Note, the term bricked is a guess and there may be a better term.

I have tried things like: ;exit_demo ;shpm to no avail.

Please help.

> If you need to reset your device whilst in Demo Mode, enter ;uzb in the search bar to enable USB storage mode then create an empty file named "DO_FACTORY_RESTORE" at the root of the Kindle storage. Once this has been created, reboot the device.

Ok, what the hell. That worked first time, yet I am certain I did that last time to no effect. I guess what I did last time I somehow managed to screw up. The only thing still blanked out is the "Update your kindle" option.

Thanks.

Thanks.

4 Once in demo mode, skip setting up wifi and enter dummy values for store registration when prompted.

I see no prompts for registration

5 Skip searching for a demo payload

Ok

6 Select the "standard" demo type

See no option to select "standard" demo type

7 Press "Done" at the prompt to sideload content. Do not sideload the jailbreak at this stage.

Not seeing any of this.

8 Once the demo is setup, skip the misconfiguration lockout using the "secret gesture" (double finger tap on bottom right of screen then swipe left)

Completely lost.

I went and redid the factory restore again, as I couldn't shut it off. Obviously I'm doing something wrong but my tired brain can't figure out what.

I found that My Kindle Voyage (v5.13.6) and Kindle Oasis 3 (v5.14.2) have slightly different flows, and my Oasis 3 had slightly different steps.

Here is my flow for my Kindle Oasis3 v5.14.2. I hope that could help you.

1. On Kindle: Do a factory reset
2. Language selection: English > United Kingdom
3. Hello screen: Set up on this Kindle > Set up on this Kindle > Set up later > Set up later
4. Finish setup later dialog: Finish Later > Finish Later
5. At the Home screen: enter ";enter_demo" in the Search bar. Nothing changed. Enter ";dsts" to go to the Setting Menu
6. At the Setting screen: ... > Restart
7. At the Home screen (demo mode): enter ";uzb" to enable USB storage functionality.
8. Enter ";demo" to show the Demo Menu
9. Demo menu: press "Sideload Content" will bring "Demo Mode: Add Content" screen
10. Connect to a PC/Mac and copy the right payload into D:\.demo or /Volume/Kindle/.demo, then safely eject from PC/Mac.
11. On "Demo Mode: Add Content" screen: press Done > Exit
12. The "Application Error" dialog will pop up. Press the Power button and hold for 40 seconds to force restart.
13. In the Home Screen (still in demo mode): enter ";demo"
14. In "Demo Menu" screen: press "Sideload Content"
15. In "Demo Mode: Add Content": press "Done" (WITHOUT connecting to a PC/Mac) > "Exit"
16. in the Home Screen: enter ";dsts" > "Help & User Guides" > "Get Started"
17. --- jailbreaking ---
18. It will bring you to Normal mode (jailbroken)
19. Please install the JB hotfix immediately.

Good luck.

Holy crap, I think I got it. Followed these instructions upto step 10, where I went back to katadelos's jailbreak instructions And low and behold, things seemed to happen...

Huge thanks to you, and of course to katadelos...

Came here to say this tip rescued a Kindle Paperwhite 11th gen that was seemingly bricked after trying to do a factory reset and getting stuck on the tree screen with a swirly circle. Adding the mentioned file and then rebooting the device allowed the circle to complete and then it returned to the normal out of box experience.
