I hear the site is going to replace their humans with ChatGPT as it's cheaper, though it's based on industrial level plagiarism. As are AI art generators. They scrape the Internet to feed the database (so-called machine learning). The financial model of ChatGPT is to sell you (Exam boards, Colleges, HR depts) the tools to detect the use of it. |

I'd like them to see if they could enable bluetooth page turning using the pen as the remote. Or perhaps some other accessory clicker as an option.

The pens without batteries are inferior, which is why over 20 years after the electronic stylus with no battery there are rechargeable and AAAA cell models (about 6 months for 30 c).

I've been using Elipsa since launch and the absence of warm light and 300dpi are really obvious. I don't know why they didn't put those features.

I seem to remember reading at the time of the scribe launch that Amazon has exclusivity over the 10” 300 dpi eink screen for one year, so maybe an improved Elipsa would be likely around early October.

There are several threads already on this subject with links to products, too. One of the threads is not for the casual geek. They delve deeply into the Linux underpinnings of the Elipsa. But a $15-$20 clicker is all you need. I've used one with limited success. The problem is the Elipsa (and Sage) shuts off the BT connection to save battery life. If you take too long to read the page, the BT connection will power down. Then you have to return to My Books, go into More>Settings>Bluetooth Connection and reconnect the clicker. Then exit back out to My Books and reopen your book. There was no NickelMenu option to toggle BT back on, and the "Recently Opened" swipe down sheet isn't accessible from the Home Screen. Eventually, I got tired of the "convenience" and returned the clicker. I can't say that the clicker I picked up wasn't what was at fault, but other people ran into the same problem. Maybe other brands work better. I figured I would wait and see what other people worked out before investing in another clicker, but I suspect that it is performing as designed. A BT Keyboard isn't usable for annotation on Elipsa or Sage as it disconnects too soon. You are maybe only annotating on a few pages. The same keyboard is fine on eInk Likebook Mars in Jota and on any of my Android phones and tablets, or PC with Linux. It's the Kobo turning off unused BT to save power. The BT is there (a) because it's "free" in the WiFi chip and (b) for Kobo's Audiobook aspirations, so likely almost by accident that a clicker or keyboard works at all. There is a wireless device that has a clip-on receiver with a tapping arm. It works with most touch screens by simulating a finger tap. Handy also with a camera with remote shutter release to make a backup if DRM isn't removable. |

I thought of the pen as a remote option, since it would give another nice feature to their premium line, but I admit, they might have to rework both pen design and the BT implementation on the device to do so and that may not be possible. Well, it was just a wish.

It would also change pen battery life from about 160 days to about 1 to 2 days. Also reduce reader run time per charge. The pen also is expensive & complex compared to a BT clicker. It would be better as a separate gadget. Really they only need an extra check box and a little extra SW on the BT models as the clicker or a keyboard does work for a short while till the power saving cuts in. |

I wouldn't mind them offering a separate gizmo. Or at least, as you say, the software implementation for making use of a third-party clicker easier.

And then a BT keyboard would be viable for annotation too. At the moment it's pointless as you have to reconnect.

It's possible there's an elipsa replacement in the works. There was an FCC filing of a new Kobo device 2 month ago: https://fccid.io/NOIKBN605?__cf_chl_...-0-gaNycGzNB70 |

It's also possible that it may be the Sage's replacement or ghod alone knows what. The information given is not enough to draw any reliable conclusions.
