I have downgraded to the desktop version 5.8, and now, everything seems to work well again, as it did before. I only had thought it to be good to upgrade if possible.
Thank you all for the support! Again, there was something to be learnt! |

While I prefer to upgrade when new versions become available, there are some good arguments for the "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" side.

I now tried to upgrade the desktop version of LanguageTool to 6.6, the LanguageTool beeing 0.4.3. Sigil v. 2.5.2, Windows 10, 64 bit. I changed the entries in the .json file to the respective folder of the LanguageTool 6.6.
Before running the tool, I updated the Java version to 8, update 451. But then, I got the message: Code:
Status: failed Working on chapter.xhtml... EPUBCheck Java error. Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: org/languagetool/commandline/Main has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 61.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0 at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader.access$100(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.launcher.LauncherHelper.checkAndLoadMain(Unknown Source) |

LanguageTool 6.6 requires Java 17 or higher.
Either downgrade LanguageTool to version 6.5 or install Java 17 or higher. I installed java 21.0.7 2025-04-15 LTS, which works fine with LanguageTool and EPUBCheck. The latest version, JDK 24, should also work, but I haven't tested it. |

Thank you! I installed JDK 24.01 and upgraded to LangugageTool 0.4.6, what I have been missing before, and now everything works well. The reason why I had installed the above mentioned Java version is that the link in #1 points to this one.
By the way: In the LanguageTool.json I set Code:
"clipboard_copy": true, |

BTW, the latest version is actually, LanguageToolQt_v0.5.0.zip, which has some improvements over LangugageTool 0.4.6. Unless you're using a very old Sigil version you might want to install and use that version. (By "old version" I mean Sigil 0.9.6 or older. The plugin has been tested with Sigil 0.9.8 and higher.) Ahem, a new problem: when I run the LanguageToolQt, I'm impelled to choose the LanguageTool Java file. It opens the C: root and the Program files directory with several folders, but none of them seems to contain the respective file.
./.Sorry, please ignore the post: I saw that it was only looking for the languagetoll-commandline.jar that is contained in LanguageToool 6.6.! Everything allright! Last edited by Leonatus; 06-25-2025 at 03:13 AM. |
