I have downgraded to the desktop version 5.8, and now, everything seems to work well again, as it did before. I only had thought it to be good to upgrade if possible.
Thank you all for the support! Again, there was something to be learnt!

While I prefer to upgrade when new versions become available, there are some good arguments for the "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" side.

I now tried to upgrade the desktop version of LanguageTool to 6.6, the LanguageTool beeing 0.4.3. Sigil v. 2.5.2, Windows 10, 64 bit. I changed the entries in the .json file to the respective folder of the LanguageTool 6.6.
Before running the tool, I updated the Java version to 8, update 451.
But then, I got the message:
Code:

LanguageTool 6.6 requires Java 17 or higher.
Either downgrade LanguageTool to version 6.5 or install Java 17 or higher.
I installed java 21.0.7 2025-04-15 LTS, which works fine with LanguageTool and EPUBCheck.
The latest version, JDK 24, should also work, but I haven't tested it.

Thank you! I installed JDK 24.01 and upgraded to LangugageTool 0.4.6, what I have been missing before, and now everything works well. The reason why I had installed the above mentioned Java version is that the link in #1 points to this one.
By the way: In the LanguageTool.json I set
Code:
"clipboard_copy": true,
but there appears no hint to a successful copy. Is there something wrong?

Not necessarily. The plugin was designed to silently copy the all errors to the clipboard. I.e., the only way to find out if it worked is to open a text editor, e.g. Notepad or Notepad++ and press CTRL+V.
BTW, the latest version is actually, LanguageToolQt_v0.5.0.zip, which has some improvements over LangugageTool 0.4.6.
Unless you're using a very old Sigil version you might want to install and use that version.
(By "old version" I mean Sigil 0.9.6 or older. The plugin has been tested with Sigil 0.9.8 and higher.)

Ah, I see! That does indeed work! This option is particularly interesting for me, as my eyes are no longer so reliable, and with the text editor I can change the font size as I wish.

To be honest: I didn't dare to install this version as I didn't really know what Qt 5 was all about.
Thank you very much anyway!

Ahem, a new problem: when I run the LanguageToolQt, I'm impelled to choose the LanguageTool Java file. It opens the C: root and the Program files directory with several folders, but none of them seems to contain the respective file.

./.Sorry, please ignore the post: I saw that it was only looking for the languagetoll-commandline.jar that is contained in LanguageToool 6.6.! Everything allright!

As described in the first topic, you'll need download and unzip the languagetool zip file and define the path to languagetool-commandline.jar in LanguageToolQt.json. For example:

Code:
  "ltPath": "C:/Program Files/LanguageTool/languagetool-commandline.jar",
You also need to install Java if it isn't already installed.

I downloaded and installed jre-8u491-windows-x64.exe

I unchecked Use Bundled Python, and added the Path to Interpreter Executable and this is what I get:

The Language Tool plugin needs both a specific version (or later) of Java installed on your PC as well as you to download and unpack the Language Tool jar file. The you need to tell the plugin where you put that jar file.

So you need to follow the full installation instructions found here:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...07&postcount=1

Note, that if you are not on Linux, you should actually always make sure the Use Bundled Python interpreter is checked. You have put something in that path that is incorrect and should instead be added to the Plugin's own preferences folder in its json file.

So try again, but this time following the linked instructions. Note you can open the Sigil Preferences folder usig the button in the lower left corner so you can easily navigate to find the plugin's preferences folder in order to edit the path to where you stored the jar.

Once all of this is set up the first time, you should not have to worry about it in the future.

If you are new to plugins, and run into trouble or do not understand the instructions, just ask here.

The plugin needs a Python interpreter. Unless you're a Linux user you should never uncheck the Use Bundled Python option.
The plugin also needs to know in which folder languagetool-commandline.jar is located. Usually, it should display a file selection dialog that allows you to select languagetool-commandline.jar.
The plugin also assumes that if you enter java -version in a command prompt/terminal window a version number is displayed.

Please try the following:
  • Check the Use Bundled Python option.
  • Select Edit > Preferences > Open Preferences Location.
  • Double-click plugins_prefs.
  • Delete the LanguageToolQt folder.
  • Re-run the plugin and select languagetool-commandline.jar.
If you're still getting the same error message, the Java binary is most likely not in the system path.
In that case refer to the Java isn't found section of the EpubCheck plugin.
