Recursion checks are only done when using the Chain Caller action, which I guess you are not using for this particular chain.
Try unchecking the "Refresh books after running the chain" in the chain dialog, and see whether this makes a difference for you. Also note, that editing directly is always going to be a tad faster. |

Yup, not refreshing makes it quicker! Thanks.

A question:
Currently, I have a 'Send to Device' chain that adds a book to a 'send to device' reading list. I also have a "send to device + add to TBR list" which calls this action. I created a second reading list, 'add to device,' for books not already on device. Would it make more sense to: a) Keep one 'send to device' chain with the two separate add-to-list actions, b) Have two chains, but two separate chain callers on the secondary chain. I'm leaning toward the first but wanted to check. In both cases, I wiould be using a conditional that sorts the book onto the right list. Last edited by ownedbycats; 12-30-2022 at 12:24 AM. |

I don't quite follow what you are doing as my own using of reading list plugin is very limited and does not involve devices at all.
Having said that, it is matter of personal preference. I prefer using Chain Caller if there is a possibility of using the sub-chains separately. However there is one limitation of Chain Caller you should be aware of: The recursion check is primitive as it checks the flow of the chains and record the name of each called chain, if one chain name appears more than once, it assumes recursion and the chain will be invalidated. This is not necessarily always true, as you might have two separate chains calling the same target chain. As for performance, the only drawback I can think of with Chain Caller, is that refresh_gui step will occur with each called chain. This is not necessary and I will correct it in the next release. |

Tip for Action Chains users:
If you have a template used in several different chains, consider using Preferences > Template Functions > Stored Template. This will give you a stored_template() that can be called from the chains. This means you have only one copy of the template to update. |

This happens an embarrassing amount of times. Not a huge priority, but could it be possible to automatically select the png option if one is loaded with the file dialog? |

Thanks for this great tool.
Guys easy question, maybe I'm blind or stupid, but I can't find a way to just press the 'OK' button in a chain. For example when I call the find duplicates plugin, the first screen asks for confirmation with 'ok' or 'cancel'. How is this solved? |

Question: Can I set an action to open the link for a selected identifier?
Context: Going through my dormant fanfics to see if any of them have been deleted. Doing bulk-updates with FanFicFare is frowned upon. I thought I could select about 5-10 fics at a time and have Action Chains open the identifier link in the browser. Last edited by ownedbycats; 01-11-2023 at 10:16 PM. |
