Kobo Aura HD (N204B) can't turn on, weird loading screen
Hi guys,
I'm a bit at a loss here. I uploaded some books on my Kobo as I always do, ejected the device using the Kobo desktop app, tried to sit down with the cat for a nice afternoon reading, when I was hit with the loading 3 dots.... but vertically, and multiplied. No way of getting it to start up. Eventually, I got a screen with the vertical dots, a C- in a crossed circle, and still no way to connect. Here are pictures of what I get on the screen: https://imgur.com/OmYJObZ https://imgur.com/lZy2xZB Please excuse cat hair and dust, it is usually cleaner than this but I've been trying to fix this all afternoon. Using the light button + power swtich, I was FINALLY able to turn it off and upon restart, it started to reinitialize. Was pretty stoked with that, I was able to connect it to my computer, to reuploa my books from the Kobo desktop app and let it sync. Once everything was completed, ejected the reader and BAM. Same thing happened. Anyone has ANY idea how to fix this? I'm very impatient to fix this and start reading again! Thanks for any help that you guys can provide! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Fixed my own problem!
I needed to post this to finally see the answer myself, and now I don't know how to delete the thread I started...
I fixed the problem by manually reinstalling the firmware and have it boot up several times. Don't know how I managed that, I lost all my data on it of course but I don't really mind - I get to finally dive in the reading ![]() Can someone close this thread? Thanks ![]() Quote:

Glad you fixed it. The 'C-' is the power button symbol, rotated just like everything else on your screen was, and with a cross over it means "updating firmware, don't turn the device off".

The thing is, my Kobo did all that after I synced it (plugged via USB), but there was no indication it was updating the firmware or anything, and I ejected it from the Kodo desktop app without any problems. I honestly wonder what happened in the first place, and how there was no indication of firmware update while plugged in... Anyways, thanks for the additional information, this is always appreciated! ![]() |
