Unable to remove DRM via Obok DeDERM
I bought 4 books from Kobo store desktop app. I downloaded the books as Kobo ePub (ePub option unavailable on Web portal or Desktop). All I'm trying to achieve is to remove DRM for my tablet. (I have spent two days on this to no avail).
After downloading from Kobo Desktop to PC. I changed file extension manually to epub, because no file extension visible. I added the books to Calibre from Kobo Desktop PC directory, (successful). I run Obok DeDRM and get the following error, calibre 6.5 embedded-python: True Windows-10-10.0.19043-SP0 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE') ('Windows', '10', '10.0.19043') Python 3.10.1 Windows: ('10', '10.0.19043', 'SP0', 'Multiprocessor Free') Interface language: None Successfully initialized third party plugins: DeDRM (7, 2, 1) && KePub Output (3, 6, 3) && Kobo Utilities (2, 16, 6) && Manage Series (1, 4, 0) && Modify ePub (1, 7, 3) && Obok DeDRM (7, 2, 1) && Quality Check (1, 12, 0) && Resize Cover (1, 1, 1) Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre_plugins.obok_dedrm.action", line 135, in launchObok File "calibre_plugins.obok_dedrm.dialogs", line 102, in __init__ File "calibre_plugins.obok_dedrm.dialogs", line 154, in populate_table File "calibre_plugins.obok_dedrm.dialogs", line 179, in populate_table_row File "calibre_plugins.obok_dedrm.dialogs", line 439, in __init__ File "calibre_plugins.obok_dedrm.dialogs", line 412, in __init__ AttributeError: type object 'QTableWidgetItem' has no attribute 'UserType' |

As for DeDRM, you can get 10.0.3 from https://github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools |

Thanks for your replies.
I revisited the ADE method and with the help of utube I figured out that my error was in not selecting the 3 little dots below the purchased books in Kobo web MyBooks Tab, by clicking on the 3 little dots a menu expands which downloads the .acsm file which then extracts just fine in ADE into ePub. Then into Claibre as unlocked ePubs, great. TWO days wasted just because I didn't notice the 3 little dots, sheesh... |

Have the rules regarding discussion of DRM removal been relaxed?

The link I posted earlier in this thread is allowed because it's not a direct download link (click and you get the file).

Thank you all for your patience.
Butt... there's always a butt. I have a message for Kobo and all institutions that place DRM on a product which one pays royalties on. It seems absurd that the buyer is punished via restrictions upon the product with little to no thought that the user may have multiple devices, please indulge me for a few minutes with my story. I was a HiFi nut and avid collector of music, my vinyl record collection was vast, then along came CD's, I liked the fidelity of CD's especially for classical music so I started replacing my Vinyl collection with the same CD versions, about halfway through the replacement process, out the blue, I was struck by a stunning revelation, I was paying royalties TWICE for the same product, it literally stopped me in my tracks, why the fvck must I pay again for the same product, money for jam. it absolutely infuriated me that I was paying royalties twice, and not even a simple "thank you for buying our product twice" from the music industry either. Needles to say I found everything I wanted in Flac DRM-less and free of charge. Now I only pay for Indie music, or anything new that wasn't in my paid for twice collection. Its the same reason I stopped buying VHS/CD movies for I realised that if the format changes I would have to buy the same product without any recognition of having already paid royalties for the product. To all the greedy Royalty mafias, there's a scene in the movie "HEAT" where de Nero asks John Voight "how do you get this information", Voight replies "everything is in the air you just have to know how to grab it". I think it depends on how it's discussed. Oblique conversations about removing DRM for "personal use" (however one wishes to define that term) seem to be tolerated to some extent.

The advice in Jon’s earlier post, by which I presume you mean the same one the link is provided, is merely operating within the Kobo ecosystem. Both kepub and epub provided by kobo have DRM or both do not if the publisher wishes it. Unless kobo have started adding it regardless of the publisher’s wishes.
