I have a regular schedule. No overtime. Nights and weekends and holidays off. No calls on the nights or weekends. Encouraged to take my PTO. Plus, better pay and benefits nearly from the start and I was with my other job 26 years. I've resisted moving up. I tell them I just want to be a worker bee not an in charge bee. It is so wonderful. I tell everyone I do way less work now and make way more money. It's a great feeling Rumple. Freedom! |

And then I reached my limit.

Since February or March they've been renovating the building two door down, they're converting it into offices. Since then I had to go ask them at least once a week (regularly more than than once a week) to move their van/car/truck because they were (partially) blocking our shop window and door. Sometimes they moved the vehicle quickly most of the time I had to go back multiple times and threaten with calling the police. Yesterday morning it happened again. The door was half blocked, most customers could enter and exit, but those with a pram, walker or in a wheel chair wouldn't be able to get in. When the driver of the van was getting some tools out of the van I tried to get his attention, but he ignored me. And I was just fed up. I should have called the council to complain, but a neighbour had already talked to the council people who deal with parking violations and other small things about the fact that the street was often blocked for hours on end (which was none of her business) or when they parked or stored building materials on her outdoor dining area, so she couldn't put out the tables and chairs for her café (council couldn't do anything about that). So instead I called the police. They were very helpful, especially after I explained why I didn't call the council. They would go discuss this with the council and take action. But I was advised to call the council. So I did. They were surprisingly helpful, they put me hold to contact the right department to ask what to do. When I was on hold the car blocking our store was moved by a very ticked off builder, so I expect the police paid a visit. When she got back she told me that she would call back later, that she was going to check if they had permits to come into the city center/pedestrian area with cars. I didn't take the return call, I was helping customers. She didn't tell my dad if they had a permit, but she told us they were going to work with the police and we got a case number so if there were any new problems we could contact them and refer to the number. Shortly after I had a look outside and all the vehicles were gone, as were all the building materials that were on the sidewalk just half an hour earlier. They didn't appear the rest of the day. So I suspect they don't have a permit to come into the city center and they were also told to move the building supplies inside. Let's see how long they keep the sidewalk and street clear. My guess is not long. |

Unfortunately, civility is in very short supply these days and most people only do the right thing when confronted with repercussions. It baffles my mind how many people are incapable of putting themselves in the other one’s shoes, and only care for themselves, but that is a rant to big for now, I’ll leave for another day. |

Some idiot tried to steal copper wire from a power substation and it ended up knocking out power to a good part of northern Nova Scotia.

An electrician working there came in yesterday, he half demanded a discount because he was working for the neighbours. I just laughed. He was by the guy that was blocking our door the previous day.

I told him I don't give discounts to people who have me call the cops on them the day before. He got angry, apparently they not only got a talking to from the police but they got also fined for various illegally parked vehicles/vehicles blocking the road. He stomped out of the store mumbling that he was going to get his two plugs from the wholesaler (a round trip of at least an hour, he would save about €1 by not buying from us). Yesterday and today there have been no vehicles parked on the sidewalk or blocking the road. There has been no building materials on the sidewalk. Both yesterday and this morning I did see builders walking past a lot of times to unload materials from wherever they are parked. Luckily they should almost be done; they're already setting up the upstairs offices. So hopefully within a couple of weeks the builders are gone. |

Why does it always take me a lot longer to redo something I already did… and lost because of my own blunder.

And why did I turn Windows Previous Versions off - it wasn't doing any harm. Added: I can answer that, because I never had need to use it, and I got fed up with it telling me the backup device wasn't connected - occasionally, as in every couple of days. Silly me for thinking I was done with the side effects of my Covid booster I got on Wednesday. I had Thursday off, which was a good idea. After that I still had a sore arm and armpit, which got better every day.

Last night I had a handful of short dizzy spells, which I thought was a side effect. But after a while they stopped. This morning everything was fine until about 10am when I started getting more dizzy spells. Mostly short ones, at time one following the the next quickly. In the afternoon I was constantly dizzy. I contacted the out of office doctor's service. And they agreed that it was probably booster side effects. They advised rest and if it got worse or if I got new symptoms to contact them again. Around 4pm the dizziness disappeared. My head felt kind of strange, between light headed and tired for a while. Now I'm just tired. Tomorrow I have a day at the zoo planned, I bought my ticket and selected the time slot for my arrival. Now I'm not sure I'm comfortable in going (it's an hour away by public transport). I can change the date of my ticket, but tomorrow is the perfect weather for a day at the zoo and that isn't guaranteed this time of year. For now my plan is to wait and see how I feel tomorrow morning and if the dizziness starts again (this morning it took a while after getting up before it started). If I stay at home I'm going to make it a relaxing and fun day. |
