My first Reader was the Sony Reader PRS-500. I did sell it.

I traded in my first Sony for a T1, I still have it and it still charges up, but I've run out of room on it. I have a Kobo Libra that I use now albeit lightly. It doesn't hold a charge nearly as long as my T1 but it does have the light which I like. That's all I have for readers. I use my phone and my pc to do the bulk of my reading.

I get rid of excess kindles. A kindle keyboard went in the Best Buy recycle bin as it would no longer hold a charge. A kindle touch (no built in light) went to a nephew. That leaves me with a voyage my wife uses and my oasis. I do have a kindle fire 8, but I use it for some other duties aside from reading like watching downloaded Netflix shows/movies when traveling for work.
I hang on to mine a long time and don’t upgrade often. Since getting my first kindle keyboard I’ve had that, the touch, voyage, fire and Oasis. |

My first died (failed drop test), The second no source for a battery.
My K4 is used when DRM is encountered AND is the one I take public places, My Aura2 is when I go to friends/Family. The last is a Homebody ![]() |

I have one of those mini "milk crates" full of devices, mostly ereaders.
I still power them up when someone asks me for help on a decade old device. A lot of them don't have batteries, I power them directly with a power supply. That makes it easier to simply boot up a device that I haven't used in a long time without charging. My main squeeze is a Onyx Poke3. The next down is a B&N Glow '21 that I bought mostly for nostalgia and really never use. The next down is a B&N Glow 3 which I use for my status display, of time/temp/battery/fresh water/propane/weather. |

I assign them specific duties. Keeping the battery charged up is easier when I am regularly using a device. The extra Voyages and Keyboards are backups and most bought at Woot cheap. Due to 2 recent Signature acquisitions, this lineup will change. I use Text to speech regularly and Keyboards and Touch will do TTS with sideloads. Two other units (failed) were traded in and others were sold/given away.
Voyage 1 - downstairs Voyage 2 - upstairs Voyage 3 - Kobo library Voyage 4 - Library lends & sideloads Voyage 5 - Literary magazines NookGlow3 - B&N library - bedside ereader Kindle Keyboard 1 - travel ereader - short stories Kindle Keyboard 2 - crime novels Kindle Keyboard 3 - novels from Baen, Tor, Storybundle, Humble Bundle Kindle Keyboard 4 - Fantasy series Kindle 7 - linked to BIL's Amazon library Kindle 7 - linked to Brother's Amazon library Kindle 8 - Whispersync titles (links to speakers) Kindle Touch - editing converted books + TTS If it were not for the TTS, I could easily cut this down to Voyages and Signatures only despite my love of Keyboard clicky keys. Seeing as I only replaced my Aura HD because it was dying, I just put it in a drawer. I did try booting it up a few months after replacing it and it was gone.

I use my Nook ST when I want to read with page turn buttons. I use my Clara when I want to read at night. I use my (2015) Glowlight Plus when I'm going to the pool or beach.

Yesterday I accidentally ran across one of my older kindles, a basic with no touch screen. It has a pretty Monet flowers skin on it. I felt that I had to charge it up, and yet I don't think I will be using it.
I gave away a few of my earlier kindles, including the first two generations. I gave the 2nd gen one to my brother. He later revealed that he didn't read books. I had also given him dead tree books for Christmas. He died in 2016 and I took the gen 2 kindle back, but it is a brick now. I gave a paperwhite to a friend a while back with several books on it and she has read some of them. She has no internet/wi-fi, so she can't even borrow from the public library with it. I still have some old kindles and kindle fire tablets. |

I have never sold an e-reader, and have given away just one (a KPW3). The donation was quite not satisfactory, as I was giving it to someone who would send it to someone needful of it.
I do want to give away my Kobo H2O, but my brother wanted it, despite having little interest in reading on it. |

Maybe there should be some sort of charity that takes old readers, restores them to the latest stock, loads a ton of gutenberg.org on it and gives them to people without internet.

An old timer, called barryem, used to post about his e-reading devices here. He lived in a home for the elderly, and gave away a few of his Kindles. He was in his late 70s. He is now probably dead. I used to like his posts.

That’s the problem with offering things to friends and family I find. They’ll just take it, never use it, and then get snarky if you ask for it back because ‘you said you didn’t want it’. Yes, but I’d rather sell it or have it on my shelf as a backup or occasional use than see it die unused in your closet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
