New to e-readers

Hey guys, I'm new in this forum and with e-readers. I was hoping you could help me here.

I want one for, mostly, reading manga (comics), but also books, pdf, office suport and images. If it has some sort of connectivity via wi-fi, even better. Good, clear screen, hopefully around 7''. An sd slot and usb would be nice too.

I've been looking for something between $150-$250, and I've come across the Kindle tablets and the Kobo ones. But I'm pretty sure there are other brands out there that could be more convinient.

As far as I know, a Kobo should be better for what I'm looking for, mostly because I hear there's a heavy format-restriction for the kindle, but the price tag is higher for the Kobo.

Do you have any recomendation as to what I should buy? Any other brands that I should look across? E Ink screens are just a matter of taste, or should I go for one withouth thinking it?

Thank you very much in advance, I'm hoping I wasn't too vague in describing what I am looking for, but I will be checking constantly if there's something I forgot.

eInk readers are basically just, well, e-readers: they're black and white / greyscale (the mainstream ones), and they're excellently suited for reading fiction in some proper ebook format (epub or mobi/azw).

They're not very good for PDFs - at least the ordinary 6'' devices - and images will be black and white / greyscale.

Depending on what you mean by "Office support" and how much you plan to use PDFs, it looks like a tablet is what you need. Many people are perfectly happy also reading books on them (while others don't like it much or get a headache or eye strain - this is highly personal though).

Any decent current Android-based tablet (including the Kindle Fires) should fit your needs, I'd think, but I don't really know which apps can easily be installed on the store-branded (Amazon and Kobo) ones.

Presumably when you say you want a "7' screen" you actually mean a 7 INCH screen? Not too many devices with 7 foot screens around. (Inconvenient to carry around.)

Sounds like a Windows tablet would be a good bet. Though you will have to do your research. I suggest looking at ebay.

Thank you! Basically, I think I should decide between an E-ink and keep it reading only or getting a tablet for a more "multitasking" device.

Any recomendation for an E-ink model?

Comics + PDF + images = tablet, not eink reader, unless you have other dealbreakers (like you really need weeks of battery life).

Your next choice is basically between Android/iPad/Windows, with a possible Kindle Fire or other ereader-store tablet. When choosing, do also bear in mind aspect ratio along with the other specs: in that respect the iPad is different from most of the Android tablets, and more suited for the majority of PDF or comic pages, but of course you pay a premium for that.

Both Kindle Paperwhite and Kobo Aura HD are glorious manga readers.

But looking at the rest of your requirements you need to get tablet not e-ink device.

From your OP you mentioned "office support": from that I'm taking that you want to be able to do word processing/spreadsheet possibly? If that's the case there is a strong case to be made for a FULL Windows tablet (my bias would be pay the little extra and get a real Windows tablet rather than a limited Windows RT tablet). It's amazing what being able to use all your normal Windows programs on a tablet can do. My experience with Android was that the "Office" type apps always come with a lot of trade-offs if you use anything more than very basic functions. If you're more into apps, then Android may be a better choice. Depends what you're using it for.
